ONE love, blood, life
My thoughts have become small and secret,
wrapped in recycled cardboard
and sealed around with strong tape
to be sent someday across the ocean.
I keep what once I spread
to anyone who'd listen,
storing up neatly packaged dreams
in a whitewashed cottage
to be retrieved on weekends and holidays,
remembered between raindrops falling on heather.
The future I have cushioned with tissue
and bundled into shoe-sized boxes.
They seem strange places to put it.
But I label them with thick black marker
and save them, a fastidious heiress
to an intangible, distant will.
