saturday slumbers on ocean beaches
summer holidays and we escape work-
the day in, day out captivity of cubicles,
commuting and consumerism
all sit in the corner and lurk?

we all do it for our friends,
fathers
families and mothers
everyone does it the same,
and we smile because on the inside
we?re fools all the same.
traveling in time,
floating through life-
besides, isn?t this all just a game?

merciless murder and maniacal leaders
the khmer rouge slaughtered cambodians
the chinese decimate tibetans
poles massacred jews and
arabs demolish kurds
everyday they do it,
day in, day out
neighbors without commonality
destroy justice
hope
faith
and peace

america did it to the indians
so it could steal their soul
whites did it to blacks
so they could steal their lives
parents do it to children
so they can ease their pain
lovers do it to each other
so they can escape their prisons

we all do it for our friends,
fathers
families and mothers
everyone does it the same,
and we smile because on the inside
we?re fools all the same.
traveling in time,
floating through life-
besides, isn?t this all just a game?

the death of the soul, the death of the conscience
when popular notions go bad
I follow the crowd and I dream out loud
all of these pressures drive me mad
swinging songs and old repertoires
about people who bring us pain
you?ll all lecture me, you?ll all comfort me
and then we?ll all go insane!

we all do it for our friends,
fathers
families and mothers
everyone does it the same,
and we smile because on the inside
we?re fools all the same.
traveling in time,
floating through life-
besides, isn?t this all just a game?
