"A Sort of Homecoming"

Soft as an angel in flight,
with wings patient like death
--she soars on the wings of a dove
Smooth as the sliver of moon shining in the night,
with the future a pensive breath
--she is soothed by whispers of peace, guided by love
Sing to us a prayer of inspired hope,
send us away with our naivete`
--our dove is like a lonely swan?
Swim through the darkness,
soak up the night's infinite`
--in a lake as placid as fresh winter snow
Climb along the silky horizon,
until you are sheltered from the blazing inferno-sea
No one could make you more perfect,
not even the flowers of Eve

A dove is like a promise,
wings cradling peace
a dove that cannot fly is a broken promise,
like heaven's ethereal peace

-for Alkata, on her return from Yugoslavia

A sort of homecoming... it's just that her home no longer exists
