A Litany for a Bad Life

I pain to understand
children that hold dieing birds
grandmothers wishing on lost husbands
dogs roaming for moved families
and lovers pining for their beloved.

Instead my head knows
gamblers who lose their homes
thieves burning their loot
liars hiding out in the next town
and idiots reading up on Napoleon.

Why should I try?
when there is no love
there is no faith
there are no dreams good enough to pursue
there is no trust
and god is dead
John Lennon is all there is.

Now my hands work
prying open closed cells
tapping into lost minds
transplanting rotten livers
loosening healed hearts
and stealing into broken homes.

Then I will know
nothing lasts forever
ever do g don?t have its day
cash talks, bullshit walks
stupid is as stupid does
and the rest of that?

When I die
there won?t be no heaven
and I won?t know no Jezus,
cos there ain?t no promised land.
choirs won?t sing
and my hair will smell tinged
and momma won?t be there to welcome me home.

Now, I've got to tell ya'll that this isn't me. I mean, its not my particular bad day.

Its the story of a prisoner, a man on death row who got a hold of the Internet and came to Interference. While he was here he read everything, all the posts about all the crap... but most of all, he was amazed at the poetry corner. So many people so obviously influenced by U2.

What he got hung up the most on were the sad poems, and all the (presumed) loss... so here he talks about his loss, and his thoughts.

I personally didn't think it was that good, but thanks all for your comments. Crazy how it works! (I personally thought On The Rise was much better
