Big Grin A few new ones

Hey DOLers.. I haven't been around a while, but I am completing my first poetry grad-class, so I wanted to share some poems I did there with you.

The Taj Mahal
for Jennifer

Our morning grows gracefully
past thatched houses
anticipation ascends the sky.

Cloth-footed we enter
the holy mouth, aroused
with history and silent in reverie.

The dignified shrine bottles her
last breath. Billowing silk sings
in exotic tongues. Doves fly above
beams. I know not where to lay
my eyes, a voyeur in their temple.

He likes giving gifts –
to us he gives rain, large and
impossible drops which chase others away,
permitting us, the “American lovers,” rare solitude
to walk around its majesty as jewels
joyously multiply, magnify
our secret, shining rain.

Men sacrificed their sight,
carving marble, creating a chameleon
among the clouds, for her
mausoleum I see ages later.

Here, holy, alive,
I suddenly desire my own
testimony
to leave behind,
eternally.

lunar eclipse

the earth interrupts
the moon’s sun tonight.
the moon fades gray and alone.

your plane courses
too fast from me
tearing the sky as it goes.

i envy the unversed
moon whose sun returns
before the ache takes hold.

Bath Towels

Each morning she heats
his bath towels in the oven.
Except Saturdays,
Saturdays he showers
after golf and gentlemen’s lunch.

The faded red towels wait,
arms folded in the closet. She had refused
to buy red towels: they’d die her whites
pink and didn’t match the bath.

He bought them anyway. She bought
a new white blouse and he never did
laundry again. He liked the explosive
color, it reminded him of her
(as if she was supposed to believe him).
That was long ago; they never spoke
of such useless matters, like colors
or explosions, anymore.

Slippered in the kitchen she piles
the thin towels, one each
for face, body, hands,
on a pizza stone. The face towel’s
fringes are blistered and the body’s
scorched in the middle from overheating.
She sets a timer she doesn’t need
to tell her they are done.

I'll stop there for now. Olive

Thanks LCK! Yeah Bath Towels I think is my better one so far.. it's much more grounded in reality and story based than the others, which might make it easier to read and see.

The other poems are good as well, but Bath Towels conveys such vivid emotion behind the actions- its strength comes from reading what is unsaid btw the lines, plus it reminds me of the Modern lit era, one of my faves.
