K-Mart was going out of business.....yep. Liquidating...everything must go. 20% 30% 40% 50% 60% 70% 80% off of everything in the store. I saw Bends. 40% off. SOLD!

The band so many of you see as SOOOOO ANTI-Corporate...I bought my first Radiohead album at K-Mart.

I saw this LIMITED EDITION "Hail to the Thief" at *gasp* at Wal-Mart. In fact, I think it was next to the new Matchbox Twenty. How uncorporate is that?

Face it - they are not THAT anti-corporate. Sell outs, probably not....anti-corporate...hardly. Get over it.

P.S. - I bought the Limited Edition at Best Buy - got a good deal on it.

Interesting post, Zoney.. but I'm still trying to figure out which instance you described that was "corporate." :hmm:

I just saw some "bashing" of other bands in another thread because the other bands were corporate puppets (Matchbox 20). I am not a fan of Matchbox 20....but I am not sure if they are any less "corporate" than the band that was being touted as not (radiohead). early morning angry post. Thanks for pointing it out!

Liek what LadyLemon said...support the locals - if there are decents ones in your town. I miss Minneapolis.

radiohead are really not all that obscure anymore.
i was playing video poker at a casino bar last wednesday, and the tv above the bar was tuned to CNN. they were running the new radiohead video behind the credits at the end of the news hour.

radiohead are as "pop" as ***** nickelback and so on and so forth. any group that goes platinum worldwide is pop. their music however, isnt corporate. if you want to listen to corporate puss rock, then listen to the bands already mentioned.

yeah

green plastic trees is so alt-indie-cool.

a very deep song indeed

I actually like Radiohead so :middlefinger: to me...

i should start my own IO thread about being the only person on interference who doesn't like radiohead and/or coldplay.

 I'm not a big fan of Radiohead's last 3 albums.. so.. don't feel bad.

Why are they deemed to be so good though? No one has ever talked about why in here that I can recall. Or maybe I just tune out to Radiohead discussion. After a request in B&C, a coulpe of people replied to answer what they think the 2 best Radiohead songs are. I downloaded 3 of them in the end and discovered another already in my music folder. To be totally honest, they are nothing more than just ok. Musically, they're in the same league as Coldplay and ATYCLB. Nice background music. I'd go so far as to call them almost easy listening. Maybe I need to listen more until it reaches the point where I can say I like them only for the familiarity of the songs. I'm not saying they suck completely or are a write off, but I still dont see where or why they deserve the adolation they recieve.

hi angela, what tracks did you download eventually??

if you want something thats a little less 'easy listening', you may want to download 'pulk/pull revolving doors' which would categorize for 'not-so-easy listening'. but better: please buy hail to the thief. listen to it for ten times and if you still dont like it, i do feel sorry for you

nah. but its difficult to imagine that radiohead sounds 'ordinary' to someone's ears. its not actually. its very special.

and if you want answers as to why radiohead make special music.... well its all in the ear of the behearer. but it cannot be argued that radiohead are very innovative when it comes to the use of computers and other seldomly heard sounds in - basically - great pop tunes. then there's thom's voice: you gotta love it (or not, such as my better half who gets disgusted everytime she hears his voice, which is a pity). he is a whiner, but to my ears he whines beautifully.

lol friar. I think I ended up with Air Bag, Fake Plastic Trees and Paranoid Android. There was also the extra track I already had, which I think was a Mogwai collaboration.

So you think they're really all that exciting? I'm stumped! I will not give up just yet. But I fear I cannot come to love them as some so clearly do

angela, same thing goes with another band i like. according to several fans who've tried to get people to listen to them, and people either think the lead singer sounds whiny, or has a beautiful voice. i of course put myself in the latter category.

however, with radiohead, i put myself in the former category. to me he sounds all whiny and i just can't get into it. whenever you don't think the singer sounds that good, it's hard to get into the music because you just can't stop focusing on the singer.

ya, actually those songs are indeed easy listening.

why not download idioteque, like spinning plates where blue birds fly to get a better idea of what theyre all about...

but to say theyre like coldplay and atyclb is rediculous, im sorry.

I've always liked and respected Radiohead, I have all their records, but I rarely listen to them.

Until now. I think the new record is extraordinary and I sense I will be listening to it for years to come. It's just one of those rare records that make my heart rate increase on the very first listen.

But I can understand not liking them--I think Thom's voice is an acquired taste and it still irritates me sometimes but the overall musical experience is so satisfying that I am more often than not able to turn any slight irritation into something closer to amusement. I think anybody who doesn't like Radiohead should give the new record a couple of listens. Two of my friends who didn't previously like them are in love with Hail to the Thief.

I don't get the comparison to Coldplay or ATYCLB at all. And I don't really get the excitement over Coldplay, period.

As for this whole corporate thing, I really can't get too worked up about that. We're all corporate slaves or whores at some point in our lives, in some way. An artist can either spend their creative energy trying to get around that, or they can pour their creative energy into making great music and doing the best they can with the corporate thing. I don't like to see the artists I like doing Pepsi commercials, for example, but if I find their records at Wal-mart, I really could not care less. If I'm shopping at Wal-mart, who am I to condemn someone for selling there.

if radiohead did distribute their albums to all retail outlets and limited it to "indie" stores they would go broke!!

even more obscure bands distribute their albums to corporate chains!

Please...NEVER compare radiohead to Coldplay. They have a defining sound that will put them in the history books.
Coldplay does a more lame copy of radiohead...but the latter is full of mystery and mood. hmmmmm.....

try these. My faves from each of the past three albums

Kid A - Idioteque (or Everything in it's right place) or morning bell: sorry...this record is just pure gold!

Amnesiac - Life in a Glass House (Jazz Goodness!!)

HTTT - Wolf at the door or Sit Down. Stand up. (oh, the drums!)
