My boss calls me into his cube, decides to explain to me that my job performance is excellent. (while surfing porn on his pc). And that I've done in about a year what they thought it would take 2 in terms of debugging and testing the firmware we've made.

He also told me there is a good possibility there isnt a need for me in another 4-6 months. It's a huge company there has to be something else for me, but literally, I put my own job in danger by working too hard. IF I had worked at a slower pace, I'd have been better off

I appreciate him not blindsiding me but I find the situation ridiculous. And trying to get a resource manager to find you another spot is like pulling teeth.

So....I have decided to pull an office space for the duration of the time I am here. ...I will show up late, leave early. take every oppurtunity possible to play tetris or poker on my machine at work, surf interference, listen to my ipod, and when I get around to it....I will do some actual work.

Also I'd like it to be noted that after 4-6 months...I may in fact turn to being a high priced male escort. Rates and availibility subject to change.

I am accepting interviews for potential pimps.

That sucks Arun:hug: Maybe they'll decide to keep you. You seem to be taking it with good humour. You'll have to post your business card when the escort business gets running:sexywink:

Take Care!

I believe you have my stapler.

Seriously though...I'm sorry, Arun. :(

I once got fired from a job, and the main reason was that I wanted to work. I had been injured on the job the day before, and my boss decided he wanted me to go to the ER afterall. I assured him I was fine and asked him to just let me work my shift. Well...because I "challenged his authority" by asking to work instead of just following orders by going to the hospital...I got canned.

That really sucks. I hope everything works out for the best, though, whatever that may be. Good luck on the slacking off!

sounds as if you should put more time into a cure for brain freeze

Arun my old friend....

Your boss has taught you a valuable lesson:

Slow down and preserve your job by surfing for porn!

VALUABLE lesson for a young associate like yourself!

There's a special circle of hell for bosses who are that stupid.

With a sparkling resume and list of wonderful references, I say "Walk On..."

That is good wisdom. By not slacking off, you can have the distinction of having saved a company from an extra year's worth of work. You will have proved yourself highly invaluable, and if you can get a glowing recommendation, your next job might be permanent.

You've got mail, my friend.

We have a bit of a similar issue at work. The slowest employee seems to be rock solid in terms of job security, because she is "stable" (if that's how you characterize working at a snail's pace) and does the most boring job nobody else wants. Aside from that - totally and completely useless.

I hope they can find something better for you soon. This is just silly.

They should give you a severance pay with excellent recommendations.
If they hesitate, suggest a lawyer will be present.

Go with that, just ask if you can leave with a hefty wedge in your wallet and find a better job with a swelling bank balance and a fantastic reference.

The guy did you a huge favor by telling you your future with the company, don't blow it by slacking too much before using their recommendations to get you your next job.

Then, on your last day get the ultimate porn-blocking firewall up and running and let the board of directors know of your farewell present.

I'm slacking but keeping it in check. I wonder if I should just tell my buddy in IT to issue an audit of his internet usage. perhaps my boss's replacement will like me more

any thoughts?

ick. that sucks.
It happened to me once
Working remodeling. I got the job done too fast and when I was hanging my last cabinet my boss told me sadly that he didnt have anything else for me to do
In that case though he wasnt being an asshole or surfing porn.
I hope it all works out for you

This may sound trite but hard work is it's own reward... but absent that, you never know if the people around you today will ever be in a position to help you in the future. I once had a job where I was told that my job was being sent across the country, and although I did eventually lose my job, I continued to work hard for them and as a result I ended up getting paid an additional 75% of my annual salary in bonus money. Had I slacked because I wasn't getting anything out of, I probably would have lost some or all of that money. The truth is that you just don't know what the future will hold and who is paying attention to what you do.

It's also extremely easy to pick up bad work habits, so if you can hold onto your good ones, do so.

Good luck, Arun...

ps...your overhanging diode is bugged....:yikes:

not bugged, its just some layered semi conductors that can produce light with less power.

I may change it to "white light emitting diode as that would be much more acceptable for illumination purposes whereas OLEDs are better for displays.
