Song of the week "sentimental" by Porcupine Tree

Bono at his best ;)

If Coke is a mystery
Michael Jackson...History
If beauty is truth
And surgery the fountain of youth
What am I to do
Have I got the gift to get me through
The gates of that mansion

If OJ is more than a drink
And a Big Mac bigger than you think
If perfume is an obsession
And talk shows, confession
What have we got to lose
Another push and we'll be through
The gates of that mansion

I never bought a Lotto ticket
I never parked in anyone's space
The banks feel like cathedrals
I guess casinos took their place
Love, come on down
Don't wake her, she'll come around

Chance is a kind of religion
Where you're damned for plain hard luck
I never did see that movie
I never did read that book
Love, come on down
Let my numbers come around

I think it is an excellent and much maligned masterpiece. Those lyrics are soooo ironic.

it's always amazing how people hate the music to this song yet love Kite, which uses a similar guitar slide loop

and with the lyrics, I sense that a lot of people don't like when Bono is ironic, they prefer him to be very earnest, and interpret his sarcasm as a lack of sincerity

I think it was played at pre-PopMart rehearsals, but never made it into the actual set, Bono occasionally sang snippets of it at the end of "Streets" (then, there will be no time for sorrow, then there will be no time for pain... )

Yep, I hate the music to this song, but I love Kite. I'm not a huge fan of the music of Kite either, but the lyrics get me every time....

I might be in the smallest minority, but my attitude goes like this: I dont like Kite (for me ATYCLB is the weakest and the only one bad album from u2->about 6 f***in good songs and the rest is total trash...other albums are filled up with one better song than the other...) and i really like Playboy Mansion...POP is my favourite...

exactly what is your username supposed to be :eyebrow:

how was that approved?

maybe its your intials or something...but still...

I didnt even think about it until it was too late.

Anyway, its being handled.

Thank you for your concern asstrap.

I have always loved Playboy Mansion. The lyrics are genius. I even typed them up and hung them up at my office---the only song I've done that for.

Back home, my bedroom was wallpapered, so I had U2 stuff taped all over my walls. In the corner by my bed, I had some lyrics typed and hung up...that song was one of them. :)
