I confess: I need help

Ok, I'm sorry to post this here...I didn't know where to put it actually. But I'm scared to ask this- blah I just will.
Alright. I have to write a paper involving my 'cultural analysis.' I have to choose a creative work that influenced me, and I was thinking about going w/ Bono's speech during SBS from Rattle and Hum. Basically I'm going to discuss how this speech made me recognize just how uneducated I am regarding the conflicts that plagued Ireland, and, having Irish on both sides, I feel I should be aware of this. But, being an idiot, I don't know if I'm being ignorant, or offensive in some way. Ack, so if someone could tell me if this is a stupid idea, or help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm Irish on both sides, except i'm northern irish on one side and republican on the other. how's that for a conflict!
