You've been in a lot of jobs.... like homer simpson

Private investigator?? How is that like??

(Answers U2Zoogirl while hiding behind bushes) - its not what you think! I do defense work - I defend the big muckety mucks, their insurance carriers and policyholders...

I stay away from that private stealth type of case where it involves divorce and cheating - or "finding a lost love" because those persons routinely can't afford to pay the bill!

People call and ask if I would "follow my spouse, I think he/she is cheating! I usually remind them that if they think they're cheating, they probably are and for them to save their money for an attorney...other than that, it pays the bills rather nicely!

I met BAW at a PI firm where she was actually MY BOSS! ha! ha! ha! Now, I'm HER BOSS!!!

so how about you???? what have you done?

Heh.

*First job was at Pizza Hut--worked there for four months until I developed an extremely serious case of mono and never went back when I finally recovered the next year

*I worked at my uncle's upholstering shop the summer before going to college

*All five years at college I worked at my campus library

*Summer break after frosh year of college I worked at a photo store for a month and a half until I got really drunk at a party, broke my ankle, then had to have numerous surgeries on it (screws put in, etc.)

*1st job after college--I was an advertising sales rep at a local newspaper until the place suddenly shut down

Jesus, most of my jobs have ended disastrously....

...

One of my Pizza Restaurant cases (no names please!) was a girl who thought she could extricate a piece of cheese from the automatic grater...stuck in her hand and came out with three fewer fingers! Ouch!

She won a partial settlement due to no training! despite the fact that there were labels all over that unit! NO PUT 'A YOU FINGERS IN DER!!!!

:) Its true, its damn true!!! :)

In all the excitement, I've forgotten about two summer jobs which I was admittedly (underage) between my jr. and sr. years in high school!

Insert after liquor store box boy- Summer of '67 -assembler at mobile home manufacturer (went wild with staple gun 'cause that's all that hold those things together!)

Insert (Summer of '68) Forklift operator at steel plant -

Multi-talented, multi-occupational.....!!!

And I still haven't found what I'm looking for!!!

OK, let's see...

- Dog washer at a dog groomer's summer before my senior year of high school, which lasted all of three weeks because the woman was a royal bitch and wouldn't let me know when I was scheduled until a few hours before

- Cashier at a large retail drug store, right after high school which lasted about 8 months

- Cashier at the service counter of a grocery store for a year, before I decided I needed to "get serious" and start making more $$

- Hallmark for a summer, right after leaving the grocery store - guess I wasn't as serious as originally thought

- Document processor (i.e; paper-pusher), my first go-round with the company that I'm currently at now, 8 months

- Temped for 3 years, got loads of good office experience

- Administrator at a marketing company, was there 7 months before I so famously was "laid-off"

3. Pizza Maker - quit on a whim

4. Wal*mart cashier. LMFAO. I WOULDN'T do the f*cking walmart cheer and thought all the happy faces were a bit fucking creepy so they stuck me out in the clearance center at the dead end of the mall with all the other shit they couldn't get rid of. HA. I used to play in wheelchairs and flirt with the security guards.

5. Sales clerk at a fancy dress shop. The boss hated me and I have NO clue why. Quit before I was fired.

6. Waitress in a POSH french place. Came down with Mono and was FIRED for it. Whaaaa? Assholes.

7. Waitress in a coffee shop downtown where all the bankers came to chain smoke. The air was BLUE, and a homeless guy asked me to marry him every single day. *sigh*

7a) (too lazy to change all the numbers) Worked in a department store. ALL i did ALL day was put away clothes. No talking. Just hanging. Hanging hanging hanging. BORING.

8. Waitress in a nicer restaurant. Eventually got to manage the place. They trusted me there. LMAO.

9. Babysitter again. No crayon burning.

10. Waitress - fired for NO fucking good reason either. *grumble* I was so mad I threw my shoes.

11. Receptionist at a spa. It was owned by a husband and wife team, the wife thought her husband had a crush on me and fired me when I got seriously ill. What a NICE woman. *SIGH*

12. Dog walker. So far my favorite job. Puppies are much better than people.

13. Store Clerk. - where I am today. It's not bad but I need mo' money.

I have volunteered for candidates in both parties! The three campaigns I put the MOST time into (my dad, a president and a mayor that is now a Senator) won their election when I volunteered. :D

I worked at the restaurant when there were only two locations, and it was just called "Buca" - I will ALWAYS love the place. Have you ever had their Chicken Saltimboca? take the lemon chicken, add melted prscuitto and artichoke hearts!

Um. I am ashamed, but somewhat relieved I am not the only one with a colourful work history:

*during school, crappy retail jobs (up to 3 at a time at one point)
*left school early to become a hairdresser (realised I was making the biggest mistake of my life before too long and went back to finish school)
*finished school and went into the lucrative and completely plastic world of advertising, studying and picking up industry experience (see: hairdressing, quit before making another huge mistake)
*after thinking there had to be something better out there, I went into welfare. Years spent in a wonderful job at Barnardos working with kids with moderate intellectual disabilities.
*eventual management change pushed me into institutionalised care :crack: I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Finally the govt realised the same and shut it down.
*worked in woolies, while feeling totally directionless, correction being totally directionless
*data analyst in an Intl market research job through a friend and I spent what I never realised at the time were probably the best working days of my life. :sigh:
*quit full time work and temped for 2 years. WHY DID I QUIT AC NIELSEN AGAIN?????
*quit temping and thought I'd try AC N's biggest Aussie competitor, Ha. Long story in this one, but turned out to be a big mistake again. Finally quit to have a baby and am now....waiting for the freeze to be lifted on a new job as a correctional services officer. In the interim I am hopefully going to work in the CBA doing either debt consolidation or loan processing. Not sure which yet.
