Fed Chairman Jerome Powell retires the word 'transitory' in describing inflation

The nation’s economic steward said it will back off of using the word “transitory” to describe the fast pace of price increases, as Federal Reserve policymakers acknowledge the increasing risk of more persistent inflation.

“We tend to use [the word transitory] to mean that it won’t leave a permanent mark in the form of higher inflation,” Fed Chairman Jerome Powell told Congress on Tuesday. “I think it’s probably a good time to retire that word and try to explain more clearly what we mean.”

.........The Fed may attempt to get ahead of inflation by more rapidly pulling back on its asset purchase program, a process it kicked off this month. The central bank hoped to fully end its open market purchases of mortgage-backed securities and U.S. Treasuries by the middle of next year, but Powell opened the door to accelerating that timeline on Tuesday.

“We now look at an economy that is very strong and inflationary pressures that are very high and that means it's appropriate for us to discuss at our next meeting — which is in a couple weeks — whether it would be appropriate to wrap up our purchases a few months early,” Powell said.

The Fed’s next policy-setting meeting is scheduled for Dec. 14 and 15.

Rumors flying that the suspect was behaving in a way that had people worried at the school. So much so that some students didn’t bother going in that day out of some fear.

The kid also post on social media with the gun prior to this weeks shooting.

The school has multiple security guards, the school has done active shooter drills (which i don’t get, won’t the shooter know the drills too??), and yet innocent lives taken and more lives traumatized

I always wonder what people mean by “the mainstream media.”

My sense is that it’s a term of convenience to describe information they find upsetting without any real understanding of what “media” is or how it works.

Now that the story is almost a week old, any thoughts on the younger Cuomo bro, formerly of Cnn?

My take is the younger Cuomo bro was a pure media commentator, not a journalist. It would give him some latitude to do whatever it was he was doing for the older Cuomo bro, for better or worse.

He’s absolutely just a commentator, not a journalist. However, people like him are connected to journalists who feed him with info. All of those talking heads like Cuomo and Hannity and what have you are just propaganda ministers. Some of them (like Lemon and Watters) are both a commentator and a journalist, for better or for worse (ok, for worse). It’s your Coopers and Riveras and Tappers who are in fact journalists, even if you know their opinions and hear their commentary.
