He clearly figures that there is no need to spend anything so long as Biden is in the lead.

He clearly was bluffing and has probably lost a ton of money due to Covid and wants to still be a gazillionaire and therefore won’t spend a dime.

Great and all. But we are talking about how he pledged like a billion dollars to defeat Trump so as to make it seem like he would ever do that. Trump did the same exact thing.

I think my new favorite Trump defense is claiming that the stories aren't true because Michael Cohen was convicted for lying to congress.

He was convicted for saying Trump stopped pursuing Trump Tower Moscow early in the 2016 campaign after it was proven that he continued to pursue it deep into the campaign.

That's one hell of a hill to die on.

It's why the whole "oh this is made up bullshit because the 'sources' are anonymous!!" is so dumb, and that Dems and the media, actually take that bait and start scrambling around to get someone to come out of anonymity is ridiculous.

If the original article had named sources, the excuse would be that they are all deep state never Trumpers and disgruntled ex-staffers. There's no winning. Just like in impeachment, they claimed to want "first hand accounts", but they blocked every subpoena of people that were first hand witnesses. When there was a first hand account, they were dismissed as deep state never Trumpers and disgruntled ex-staffers.

It's not stopping the story from becoming a real issue for Trump. I think it actually may have started to make Trump's "Fake News - It's a Hoax!" start to look more pathetic than ever.

What we can say is that 4 different news organizations have confirmed the story. There is also one named source that can confirm the John McCain flags at half mast story. And we can also confirm Trump lied about not calling McCain a loser, and we know that Kelly has not come out and said the comment from Trump at his son's grave didn't happen.

I get people dismissing Cohen because he comes off slimy too. But sane people know everything he's saying is true.

I think the thing that is most annoying about the Bloomberg thing, is that he doesn't even have to spend the money that he said he would. He literally could fund offices, ground game and ads in ONE state, for less than two months. It's not like he has to be in NC, TX, GA, OH, WI, MI, PA, MN, and AZ. JUST FLORIDA!
So we shall see. If he jumps in in October or something great. If not. Man, that really is shitty. All the money that he's giving to other organizations is great, but I'm sure those same organizations will be worse off than they ever were before if Trump is reelected.

Not for nothing but shouldn't it makes more sense to spend it in October?

Just a side note. It does seem that the Trump campaign might be having some money troubles. They keep taking long breaks off the air, whether nationally or on a state level. Latest one is them pulling all AZ ads until October! This is after Biden had 3 polls with a large lead in the state.
They seem to have moved to a strategy of timing ad buys to go along with the early voting calendar. There really is no other explanation except they don't have the cash.

And you will notice that they never released their August fundraising numbers. Biden/Harris couldn't wait to say they raised 364 million in one month.

I agree somewhat, which is why I'm kinda sitting back and waiting. But It is Sept 6th. You would think we might hear rumblings about him making plans. And remember, FL sends ballots out the last week of September. I would think you would want to get ahead of that.

Nate Silver -
If you're behind, you only have so many chances to turn the campaign around, and Trump whiffed on a couple of chances this week.
He did not get much help from his convention.
Nor does his "LAW AND ORDER" focus seem to working, at least if you trust the polls.

He's also massively undermining his own claims of being all about "law and order" when he's simultaneously out there openly telling his supporters how to cheat to help him win an election by voting twice. Obviously his base won't give a shit about that, but your average voters who aren't part of the cult will notice, and care about, that rather big contradiction.

In this case, too, we also do have actual examples of moments where Trump has openly disparaged McCain, both before and after his death, and we have his whole thing of going after that Gold Star member and their family during the 2016 election, and things of that sort. So this story just fits with what we've already seen publicly from him.

It would be interesting to hear directly from some of these people, if only just to hear more about their stories in general, but you're also right that it wouldn't matter whether they reveal themselves or not. Plus, given Trump's propensity to threaten and intimidate people, they're probably staying quiet for their own safety, lest Trump inspire some member of his cult to try and go after them or something.

Meanwhile, in middle America, every day there’s some new mailer in my mailbox from right wing groups decrying “Comrades Pelosi and AOC bent on turning America Socialist!” or “Joe Biden has been taken over by the radical left!” or “Joe Biden wants to take away your guns and ban air travel!” or some other similar nonsense. It’s rather exhausting. The Republican party’s entire election strategy - on both the national and local level, is fear-based.

I’m sure it’s working for many, but it does strike me as much more desperate in tone than in previous elections.

I gotta say that I think this is one of the worst run campaigns I’ve seen. At least on a messaging stand point.
I actually think that they should have gone with the Hunter Biden, Biden is corrupt play than this nonsense.

The mailers you mention are the core of Trump’s problem. Since 2016, where he won the EC by scraping together 84,000 votes across three states, he has grained little to no new support. It really is the number one thing that he had to do to win a second term. These mailers, and the Trump message that Biden is a radical leftist, and your suburbs are going to be over run by “you know who”... is winning zero new votes, and by the polling even turning off some that went for him in 2016.
It crazy how bad they have been at this. I mean, I guess that’s what you’re left with when you don’t have a candidate that can run a campaign on hope, vision, unity and a strengthened democracy.

We get some channels out of southern Minnesota in my area, and there's a Trump ad running on them right now that's ranting about Biden "taking a knee" to support the rioters and looters and such (and they show a photo of him wearing a mask as well-THE HORROR!), and they specifically mention Ilhan Omar in the ad as an example of the "radical left" that is supposedly threatening this country.

"Desperate" is a great description, because that's exactly how that ad comes off to me, too.

in toronto we get the buffalo affiliate station of all the american TV networks.

every GOP political ad in upstate NY (around buffalo seems to be all pretty hard-red districts) for the last five years has been all about how much the donald loves the candidate. there was a special election in june for a congress seat between two republicans and the opposing ads were literally "donald trump retweeted candidate x", "but donald trump tweeted once that candidate y was great!" (candidate y won).

every GOP political ad in upstate NY now is all about "holding democrats accountable" and stopping "socialism". i haven't seen a single one mention trump's name. shit like this makes me think that even his base is finally starting to give up on him.

Returning to the "losers and suckers" disparagement -
I can tell you that from DU Democraticunderground that a lot of vets, their families are furious at drumph.
I think this story will keep going. And did someone mention that The Atlantic has more Trump stuff to print.

Oh, and (from DU) a ex cop drumph supporter just asked a relative 'where can I get truthful news?'.
:hmm: ...interesting.

Can we put a moratorium on the word "foment" please. Enough! How about encourage? Provoke? Urge?

Foment? seriously?

Trump campaign running out of cash with 60 days to go.

They spent millions just in the DC area.

I wonder if the plan is to funnel it all into the family business (which they are) and see if Russia can steal another one ?

I think that if they believe that they will lose, they’ll try to steal all they can. It will be like when you walk into a foreclosed home that’s for sale and the kitchen cabinet doors have been ripped off.
