He looks old. Hopefully he'll be dead soon.

I would love for this prosperous week of Supreme Courtness to continue, but I don't think they have anything gun control related on the docket right now

I'm really just so glad this was settled before the election. It's not that I think it's a trivial topic, but sometimes civil issues like this are a nice distraction from the really important stuff that politicians SHOULD be talking about when it comes to running for office. A supreme court ruling should basically take this off the campaign table, I would think. Except maybe for Hillary to use it as an example of what got done during a Democrat's term?

Wow.. comparing a day when love beats hate to the day where hate beat everything else.

This I just cannot understand. I get it does not go with your own religious views, but why all the hate? Isn't the big thing the bible teaches you that god = love? Does it matter what love if it does not affect your life in any way?

Have there been any violent or hateful gay protesters sofar? Might be biased media, but I haven't heard or read about anything. While I've heard of many peaceful protests. On the other hand the opposition.... but again that might be biased, though I've heard of a lot of Christians who actually are not against this, since they realise it does not affect their life in any way whatshowever.

I'm happy for the US people finally able to be equal and get married to the love of their life. Kudos. I never knew what it was like before it was legalised here as I was about 12 years old when it happened, but it probably wasn't easy feeling like a lesser human being. Finally we're all equal in this aspect.

I saw a very similar article the other day in regards to the ACA. Again, people seem to know NOTHING about the world around them.

EDIT: That came off a little overly aggressive. If you're already quoting me, it's fine. I just get tired of the "America is so backwards hahaha" narrative.

I'm happy that many of my friends can finally be recognized as married couples throughout the whole country that they have served and bled for in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. (I don't know anybody who served in the Marines that well). We're gonna have BIG and more meaningful Independence Day celebration next week.

One thing I keep seeing and cannot understand is the whole "Defense of religious freedom" aspect. How is allowing everyone the opportunity to avail themselves of a civil institution affecting your religious freedom? You can still go to church, right? Your god hasn't suddenly been banned, has he/she? As much as some seem to want a theocracy (how's that working out in other parts of the world?), the US Government is not a religious institution.

Get over it and join the celebration.

* Defense of religious freedom...

Guess I had the opening parentheses too close to a capital D.

Are churches being legally compelled now to perform same-sex marriages? I thought a church had the right to refuse to marry anyone they wanted to?

I ask because the only person who's posted anything remotely negative on my Facebook feed has framed this as a violation of the first amendment, and is convinced that religious institutions are now being forced to perform same-sex marriages if someone asks for one.

Which kinda begs my own question, now that there are a multitude of options available, why would any two men or two women ever want to get married in a church that is only allowing it because they're being legally compelled to?

I'm pretty sure your friend is completely wrong. You can't force a church to do something, I mean, that's the idea behind separation of church and state, right?

Your friend is wrong. He's not understanding the difference between a state marriage and a church marriage. No church is going to be forced to marry gays, yet the state is being forced to marry them by law. Not religion, just law.

Yeah, it took me all of five seconds on Google to find out how full of shit he is.

I'm not even sure why he's so concerned about Christian churches' reaction to this, considering he's hardcore Jewish and has up to this point always posted things in favour of SSM.

Yes, churches can still refuse to marry Catholics to Lutherans.
