The idea of Obama as a SCOTUS justice is enough to make me believe that there might be an all-powerful deity out there who loves us and wants us to be happy.

I feel especially bad for Justice Clarence Thomas,
He won't know how to vote now.

Will he break his silence over Scalia's death?

I love this idea that Obama shouldn't be allowed to nominate a new justice because he'll be out of office next year. If another justice dies the day after the next president is sworn in, he or she better not appoint anybody either because a candidate from the rival party might become president in three years and 364 days.

"He shouldn't be allowed to nominate a new justice" = "Us conservatives are scared the next justice won't be a complete and total cunt"

"We vow to uphold the constitution!" = "we will not let the president execute his constitutional right to elect a new justice!"

(Of course, the other side blocks justices as well when it comes up. But hi, hypocrites!)

If there is an actual good argument against presidential term limits, I might find it in the bizarre scenario where every eight years or so, an entire year of an administration is talked of as though it were some kind of caretaker government and nothing more.

i feel sad for someone's death but I feel ecstatic for the fact that one of my least favorite human being is no more.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia Dies

If George Bush was in office and a liberal judge died, would liberals want to block Bush from choosing a new Justice in a lame duck year?

See, the term lame duck isn't actually an official designation. I'm not sure if you realize this.

^that's probably a pretty fair question.

Although I'm not sure Scalia was just some run-of-the-mill conservative. He was a horrible person who negatively impacted many people's lives from what I've read.

Scalia was "originalims" kind of conservative, meaning that he's gonna interpret constitution LITERALLY, just like how it was written in 18th century. that's why he's advocate of states' rights, as constitution w/ amendments states that whatever is not on constitution is up to states to decide. he said that 2nd amendment should be interpreted as literal as possible so he said it's fine for someone to carry a bazooka or rocket launcher if he/she feels like its needed for self defense. as stupid as it sounds, they accept this argument. Originalists also may say that rights for gays and legalization of drugs should be totally up to states, because nobody in 1700s talked about weeds or gays. I personally find it bullshit as constitution, i think, is intentionally written vaguely so that interpretation can be changed according to the later generation. but.......originalism exists and it is (kinda) alive. now one of the advocate is dead......

What does that have to do with anything?
