This story is one that will generate some passionate discussion I'm sure (in the US at least)

From TMZ.com....

Report: Rush Limbaugh Hospitalized in Hawaii
Posted Dec 30th 2009 9:46PM by TMZ Staff

Rush Limbaugh has been hospitalized in Hawaii after suffering chest pains -- this according to KITV Hawaii.

According to KITV, paramedics responded to a call at the Kahala Hotel in Honolulu at 2:41 PM and transported Rush to Queens Medical Center.

According to the report, Rush was in "serious condition" when he arrived to the hospital.

Attempts to reach a rep for Limbaugh were unsuccessful.

Story developing...

Just because I can't stand the words that spew out of his mouth doesn't mean I wish him ill will. I'd just prefer he disappear from the limelight.

That's exactly how I feel.

I don't know if this applies to something like chest pains, but from my experience as a newspaper reporter who calls the hospital a lot after stuff like motor vehicle accidents and gunshot wounds and stabbings that people tend to recover if they are in serious condition. It's when they are in critical condition that you have to worry about them dying.

He should lay off those cigars on the golf course:

Limbaugh: Tests show no ailments after chest pain

Jan 1 05:46 PM US/Eastern
By MARK NIESSE Associated Press Writer

HONOLULU (AP) - Conservative talk radio show host Rush Limbaugh says tests show nothing wrong after chest pains hospitalized him.
Limbaugh said Friday at a Honolulu news conference that he was being released from the hospital, where he'd been since Wednesday. Doctors said he did not have a heart attack or heart disease. Limbaugh says they don't know what caused the chest pains.

Asked whether he was taking painkillers, Limbaugh said no.

In 2003, he acknowledged an addition to pain killers and took a five-week leave from his radio show to enter rehab.

could the fat one be lying?

Could he be lying? I know it seems silly, but I wondered that myself when I first heard about this. I thought of three possibilities:

1. Genuine natural health issue for which appropriate emergency care was sought and given.

2. Genuine emergency for chest pains, but perhaps brought about by some illegal (or at least embarrassing) cause. Wondering if drug use is back in the picture. It is reported that he told the medical staff that he had been taking prescription pain killers for a back problem. That's probably something he'd never publicly reveal unless he was in fear for his life and wanted the medical staff to have all necessary info for life-saving treatment. (Or maybe it is proper/legal use of painkillers for a real back problem and he gave them the correct info when asked if he'd taken any medication -- and rightly expected that his medical privacy would be protected from the public at large).

3. A publicity stunt (but admittedly odd one). For the first time in his long career, he may be eclipsed by someone else (Glenn Beck and others) as the king bogeyman of talk radio, etc. Beck has been getting all of the major national attentio for the last year or so, and his star continues to rise. That definitely irks him. Meanwhile, Limbaugh seems tangled in some daily sniping with MSNBC that seems to really be frustrating him. If this were a publicity stunt, it gets him back in the news and lights the match for people to pour out their feelings of fanatical love and toxic hatred for him. It gives him the opportunity to get back on the air and read aloud how bitter and hateful liberals danced on his grave thus revealing their true nature. He will surely pull a quote from a Hollywood celebrity or media elite to prove his point. People have been and will keep talking about him. More will tune in when he goes back on the air. I noticed that the first statement from his camp on this subject was direct people to his website for continuing information. Hmmm.

2. Genuine

Sorry for that horribly edited post above. I typed the post in from a mobile phone, and it is very difficult to edit mistakes found. Had to leave it as is.

I think a combination of 1 and 3 - he's using his press conference to mention that he was treated to the best health care the world has to offer, here in the US.

as a rich man, he's probably not exactly wrong.

if he were poor, he probably wouldn't feel that way.

In his press conference, he said he was treated like anyone else who had the same symptoms would have been. He's in denial obviously.

I dunno, sounds suspiciously like the Canadian SOCIALIST SYSTEM.

Perhaps such a close call will soften him up. A kinder, gentler Rush Limbaugh.

That's a nice thought, but somehow I don't think so. I wish him well too-but I would agree that he'll probably use it for political purposes. He has no business relating his health care experience in any way to what goes on for the average person-he can just write a personal check for any possible health care expense he has. And obviously he probably has the best insurance available.

He's been rich so long that he has completely lost touch with the reality most Americans live with.
