Political Compass, 2013 Edition

This place is somewhat quiet, I'm bored, and it's been nearly exactly a year since we've had a political compass thread. So I thought it would be interesting to start a new one, even though I question just about every political compass site that there is.

I'm very close to where I was last year. Slightly more conservative economically, and maybe slightly more authoritarian socially. The latter scares me. Am I becoming a Republican?

Every nation that has progressed in history has been for its practice of a free market economy.

There is no need to waste time on ridiculous arguments concerning if you are leftist, a rightist or a socialist or capitalist.

Any deviation from this standard of progress and development is doomed to failure.

Apart from everyone's own compass, this is one I find really interesting:

It shows the candidates of the 2012 US presidential election in one compass. As noted on that page:

We list these because many of Obama's detractors absurdly portray him as either a radical liberal or a socialist, while his apologists, equally absurdly, continue to view him as a well-intentioned progressive, tragically thwarted by overwhelming pressures.

So yeah, the next one who refers to Obama as a socialist or something equal on the hard left deserves to be mocked.

Whatevs. I'm not sure that I buy the libertarian label. I consider myself to be very socially liberal policy-wise, socially moderate (leaning leftwards) in terms of more personal beliefs, and moderately leftist on international affairs (but that's a source of great difficulty for me, and probably where I'm most flexible). In economics, I think I'm a Keynesian when it comes to recessionary policy (though I am far from certain that Keynesianism is actually correct, and I take issue with certain brands of it), and I think the government should step in to create better equality of opportunity, but I think I have a fairly capitalist temperament, and I'm very pro-free trade. So maybe this is reasonably accurate.

"Mothers may have careers, but their first duty is to be homemakers."

"You cannot be moral without being religious."

These are not exactly subtle indicators of one's political standing.

haha, yeah i'm not kidding when i say i'm a leftist, probably even by global standards.

i don't get why sites are so keen to stick a libertarian label on people though. it's been a few years since my politics class, but i don't think we even discussed them, and we did look at politics on both a national and global scale. but i've never been on the moderate side of the political scale (at least since i've cared about politics), so maybe i've just subconsciously tuned it out.

yeah, it was pretty easy (to me, at least) to know how the quiz was going to turn out. i still answered everything as i felt, but i couldn't help but feel like it reminded me of "which u2 member r u" quiz or something. clearly if i pick "scowl disapprovingly at everything" for the question "what is your modus operandi" i'm going to get larry.

Seriously, I'm not even sure why we still take it? We all know that basically everyone here is in the little green corner anyway, or at least in that square. It's not exactly the most politically diverse of forums.
