You fight for the improvement of society, and you support a party which denies society even exists.
You want "better rights for hard working people" and then you say "stuff the miners."
You say that no one messes with Maggie, then you say "how dare they hold the PM to ransom." Do you really think they had the capacity?

You're a bag of contradictions, madforit, and it's quite hard to take when you're spouting ignorance. At least try and sound as though you know what you're talking about.

1- Thatcher denied that society existed. In her context she reffered to society bailing people out, ready to step in and offer handouts. To be fair i agree with her speech.
"I think we've been through a period where too many people have been given to understand that if they have a problem, it's the government's job to cope with it. 'I have a problem, I'll get a grant.' 'I'm homeless, the government must house me.' They're casting their problem on society. And, you know, there is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women, and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look to themselves first. It's our duty to look after ourselves and then, also to look after our neighbour. People have got the entitlements too much in mind, without the obligations. There's no such thing as entitlement, unless someone has first met an obligation."

People should make some effort themselves to have a better life rather than laze around. BUT with the current economic situation some hard working people have suffered so they deserve support. Those unemployed for more than 4 years should get no money and left to starve. Why pay someone who has put nothing in the tin for 4 years?

Perhaps i was wrong to use the word society, but what i am trying to say is that in the UK right now a lot of people are uncivilised. They are like animals. Handouts wont provide people with common sense and RESPECT for fellow hardworking citizens i.e no theiving, stabbing, shooting, car jacking etc Thiose who break the rules should be made to do hard labour or be used for medical testing. They are a threat to normal hardworking people who go about not harming other people, like me and you. Measures have to be taken to ensure that us normal folk can lead a safe life.

2- The miners actions were rediculous. They thought they could take Thatcher down like they did with Ted Heath. They failed. She was prepared. She imported coal from Poland so that the strike did not disrupt power in the UK.

3 - The miners succeeded in getting rid of Ted Heath so yes, they had the capability to destroy Thatcher but luckily she curbed the powers of the unions. Otherwise we would be like France with strikes all the time.

Lucky you you are not a German. ;)

I'd be interested to know, madforit, do you support the actions of the BNP?

Now I'd go through every point you've made, and pick things apart, but I don't see the point when you're obviously so happy to think like this - to think of people as uncivilised and like 'animals' because they haven't done well in life, because they might have had a bad start. If you want to think like that, then go ahead.

Yes the miners brought Ted Heath down, and very nearly brought Thatcher down - because they had the might of the people behind him and very much represented 'the people' themselves.

How do you know I'm a hardworking normal person? I could be one of the knife wielders for all you know :D

You are

I will not get into anymore debate about this, I can see we have completely opposite views, so let's just leave it there PGV

I agree with most of what you have said MadForit, except any posts you may make about Oasis

For the record the BNP are complete loons

BNP are totally wrong

I think if immigrants arrive in the UK legally and work hard and LEARN the language then great. The uk would be so dull without the different groups of people
A lot of the immigrants deserve to be here more than the natives! -

I am guessing you are not a criminal partygirl as you are clearly an intelligent person. Probably at university and has a double-barrelled name as well :D (joke)
I used to a fairly liberal person, never a socialist. But the last 7 years or so i have moved to the right. I just think things have become so bad in the uk.

If people have a tough start in life, its no excuse to lash out and ruin other people's lives - just look at how the family of Garry Newlove has been ruined. He went out to tell some yobs to stop smashing his car and they beat him to death. As soon as people are 10, they know what they are doing. They should know what is right and wrong. If the parents cant set the boundaries, then the government has to.

CHAVS/YOBS are animals
This is the proof

That's what I really respect with you Anji, that you can agree to disagree, and I feel the same way about your views :) Especially that about the BNP :tsk: The fools!

 I'm not at University yet, but will be in the summer. I don't have a double barrelled name, come from a working class background - hence why I always flare up when the 'benefit theives' argument is brought up. Yes, you get such people - just like you get millionnaire tax evaders. Some people just are low life and always will be, but you can't label everyone in a specific group as that.

Yep, yobs are animals... whether they're in the BNP, at football matches, whatever. It's just not the way to deal with things.

I think we have pretty similiar ideas... only I've taken the liberal route and you the other. I'd prefer to see the better in people, and help them according to their faults rather than condemn them. Violence is bad at the moment, there's a lot of ill feeling (in Europe, not just Britain) and I don't think that's ever going to be cured with more anger, more hate. But that's just me

Certainly not, I'm no hooray henry!

I've had an offer from Manchester that I'm pretty happy with.

How old are you, madforit..? A bit older than me, I'd say :hmm:

23
went to uni did history
then worked for a year to get on masters course
now doing my masters - which is pretty dull, but its a requirement for the job i want to do
sick of studying now - cant wait till september. Then its 9-5 time......

I really wanted to do History at uni, really pissed off I didn't take it at A-level. What you're doing sounds really interesting, do you focus on a specific period? And which uni did you go to?
Aha I guessed right with the age then!

went to York - beautiful city. Night life is not amazing, but the people were great and i made some great friends at uni. I wanted to go to Bristol but was put off by the 3 A's they wanted. I should have put them first as in the end i got more than what they wanted. I didnt go for London uni's as it was to expensive and my hometown is only 250k in people so London was too big a step. Warwick was to close to home and being from the Midlands i needed a change as in general all the midlands looks the same.
I covered all kinds of stuff - but i am a modernist
studied 20th century Spain, 18th to 20th century russia, European involvement in the middle east and india (best topic i did)
Historians and race
Diaspora and Identity
Dissertation on Gandhi
i actually covered loads but to be fair i dont remember all that much now
It was either history or geography as i did both at A Level and enjoyed both equally. It was a case of tossing a coin and making a choice. Only St Andrews did both but that was too far and seems a bit of a dump.

Doing a masters in Records Management now - the job sounds more interesting than it is but the course is a killer. Everything is so over the top and they make it into a life and death situation. Its not as important as they make it out to be and i cant stand any more theory.
I'm only doing it as i HAVE to do something lol I want a cushy job where i can get away with doing the minimum and just chill

What subject you doing at uni?

I think all this makes me an unusual candidate to be a hardcore Oasis fan but i'll be there in June in Manchester - its my pilgrimage to Heaton Park

You are not wrong there! Especially as they are what I would call "yob culture" IE the hard arse swagger, knock your teeth out before you ask any questions, general thugs. Their attitude stinks IMHO

Some of your past posts have come over to me that way too :shh:

Their Music is ok tho :sexywink:

Yea i know i am a selfish so and so and can be quite abrasive, but once your in the club its a requirement

As i have said, its a way of life. I like to channel the attitude in more positive ways than yob culture.

Thatcher is scum&not even human :angry:

Burning in hell would be too good for it!!!!!

Same here with Bristol actually... I applied, but haven't even considered going given the offer. York sounds amazing, my best friend's going... and probably doesn't care about the night life too much if she's as uncool as me.
You're from the midlands? Well, ditto that, I'm from Shropshire.
I'd have covered the complete opposite end of history if I'd have done it  Haha st. andrews a dump... didn't one of the Princes go?!

Good luck with your masters, after the amount of studying you've done I can see why you'd be desperate to get into a 9-5.

I'm doing Russian studies, both language and history.

And I'm jealous you got Oasis tickets  Because I didn't  As much as it kills me to say it... have fun

^ I hope anji didn't see that last bit :shifty:

I can't even bring myself to say it  :shifty: I would like to see them just once

:hmm: A few extra posts since mine, and I see nothing

I know it may be risky but put bristol as first choice and manchester as second - you could do better than your predicted grades

York wanted AAB so there was not much difference between the two - But in the end i got 4 A's. In History, geog, Sociology and Gov + Politics

My russian lecturer was from Bristol and spoke fluent russian but with a somerset accent at times which was quite funny

What you are doing sounds great - i'd love to vist russia and see Moscow and St Petersburg - so much to see

Hope it all goes well

By the way shropshire is pretty close to me - been to Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury many times
and ofcourse the Ironbridge

I debated doing that, but then I visited Bristol - and didn't like the preppy vibe going on. Love it down south, don't like southern students though. Up north's where it's at!

You took 4 a levels? Or was one of those as? That's pretty damn impressive... I'd be amazed if I got one A! Based on being far too lazy for coursework and never actually attending college.

Haha that's cool, and yeah I won't know which to pick for my year abroad - St. Petersburg or Moscow.

Cheers

Where abouts are you from in the Midlands? As luck would have it, I live in Shrewsbury  Although it's nothing to boast about.

I can't even bring myself to say it  :shifty: I would like to see them just once

:hmm: A few extra posts since mine, and I see nothing

 Tell me you didn't just say that!

That's what I like to hear

Glad to see you agree with me Emma! :hi5: such a horror bag&our worst leader ever i'd have to say!

Oh and i've been lucky enough to see Oasis 3 times, plus i think Noel's such a scream!

Hell yes :| :| And she's about to be played by Lindsay Duncan on the bbc, and I've met Lindsay Duncan

I'm jealous! I think the gallagher brothers are hilarious, but I can totally see why people wouldn't be huge fans... not of their music, though. If you're British and don't like Oasis then you're not really British

Oh yeah i know about the Lindsay Duncan thing, and you met her? Where did you meet her&what was she like? I'm jealous of that! I've seen that proramme advertised in a few places. Oh and you met Susan Sarandon too! 2 ace actresses! :applaud:

She was in a play in London I went to see, and that same afternoon I literally bumped into her in Leicester Square  ... and as I was holding the play programme (which was embarrising) she offered to sign it. Was so posh and tall and lovely :D
 Wow, you remember that! I don't think I've mentioned that on here in ages! Susan.

*runs off to brag a bit more*

:giggle: brag away, since i could tell you about quite a few people i've seen/met myself! :D

Good to know Lindsay was so nice&that's not uncool to get her to sign your programme!

i did all 4 A Levels for 2 years
I was thinking of dropping one but then just carried on

i worked hard in AS year then chilled in A2 year
