I know these Pharma companies have stated that once the pandemic is over, they will start charging for the shots going forward.

The problem is that we cannot get past this pandemic until everyone globally is vaccinated. It's as if this notion totally escapes people in the west. If you are New Zealand and basically sealed off from the rest of the world AND you are willing to forego all tourism-related dollars for the next 3+ years (in addition to the year that just passed), then ok, screw the others and worry about yourself.

But the vast majority of the rest of us don't have that luxury. We live in urban areas and with global businesses and international travel, we are screwed until everyone is vaccinated. It will be pointless and like playing whack-a-mole. So the sooner we can ensure that everyone is vaccinated, the better we'll be.

I agree with Headache though on the national rollout, and I would say that this is not a uniquely American problem. Any place where you have states/provinces/etc administering their own vaccine plans are uneven and inconsistent with each other which then causes problems with people looking across state lines wondering why 54% of that state is vaccinated while only 17% of yours is.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden opened his first formal news conference Thursday with a nod toward the improving picture on battling the coronavirus, doubling his original goal by pledging that the nation will administer 200 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of his first 100 days in office.

This article says pretty much the same thing.

There is not going to be a all clear moment, at least not this year or probably a few years. This virus is with us and the longer it takes to get people vaccinated, or the virus is allowed a faster time to mutate we could be playing whack a mole for years to come.

For the US if 30% of population won’t take the vaccine Theres really no chance of ever squashing it here. And of course we have international travel so those countries who can’t manage it or vaccinate fast enough will bring new mutations here and it’s a race to update the vaccine against it.

With climate change my worry is the mosquitoes viruses taking off!

I’d love for the government to spend its military budget on the sciences, medical and the rest. Solve problems vs blow shit up

Vaccinations are now open to everyone 16+ in Utah. We have by far the youngest population in the nation, so it probably helped us to get the olds immunized faster. Hoping more states can get there soon.

I got hit really hard with the 2nd dose side effects. Fever, chills, headache, dizzyness and body aches for about 24 hours. Probably the sickest I've felt in a decade. Happy to have it over with and grateful for science and modern medicine. Hoping the rest of you fair much better.

Our national institute in charge of vaccines is finally studying whether to exempt people who have had COVID from the 2nd dose. France has done it and Quebec has done it. I really hope that's the case because the anecdotal stories of those who had COVID and get the full two doses are often horrific. We now have studies showing that 1 dose of Pfizer is "comparable" - almost the same as natural immunity. Individuals who have not had COVID and receive one dose show up to a 10x lower antibody level than those who have had COVID and one dose. It's becoming fairly clear that there is no reason to overburden us. I have obviously a personal vested interest as somebody who had COVID and a reasonably uncomfortable version of it that required steroids in the end to allow me to so much as go up the stairs in my own house. I legit have nightmares about having to re-live those symptoms and have no interest in that second dose, so I hope they just go ahead and declare that to be the process going forward.

Read something about extremely strong reactions implying a likelihood of prior Covid infection (even asymptomatic). To a level where one dose could’ve suited you well enough. Curious if that’s the case.

Yeah I wonder. I had an odd cold with some lingering breathing issues at the beginning of March 2020 that I got a week or so after being around co-workers from Seattle. Testing wasn’t easily available at the time so I never did get tested. I chalked up most of the breathing issues to anxiety, but now I wonder if I did indeed have it.

I also have type 2 diabetes and non-Hodgkins lymphoma so that may have made my reaction worse to the 2nd dose (and has also given me anxiety this entire past year as to how I would handle covid).

Whatever the case, I’m very happy to now be fully vaccinated.

I'm so glad you're fully vaccinated. Blessings to you for your health issues.

Vaccinations opened for 30+ in New York State as of tomorrow. Now finding an appointment will be a struggle.

My dad got the Pfizer shot today, I'm really relieved as he was the only one in our closer family who didn't have COVID so he was my biggest ongoing concern. Yes, there are a couple of weeks before the first dose is fully effective +the wait between doses but I still feel way better today than I did yesterday!

My mother got a shot on Saturday in Brazil, which was a huge relief given how bad things are.

Get my second shot Wednesday.

Mom has had both, dad is one shot in, MIL is fully done as well.

Now just need to get my wife vaxxed and we're good to go. People who work in media just became eligible in DC so it's just a question of waiting for her name to be called, which is kind of stupid. We can't figure out how to mass vaccinate in the District, apparently.

I'm getting my second dose on Thursday and go back to work in a hybrid schedule April 26th before teaching full time starting May 17th. It's time, really, and I'm going to spend the next month adjusting to the psychological challenges involved with returning to society after 13 months in the house being fed horror stories.

Still waiting here in SoCal. I don't think I'm eligible but have heard stories of my coworkers getting the shot since our Tier was supposed to be opened weeks ago. They took their corporate letter and badge and got the shot(s).

Might have to get online in the early, early AM to see if I can find a location that has appointments available.

My entire family back in Iowa is vaxx'd, so that's good for them. Should be safe for a while, especially considering how crap Iowa's response had been.

Selfishly I want to be done.

Get my fauci ouchie tomorrow, if only because I carefully looked at the rules in MD.

DC is so behind and VA is so bad at communicating that... I’ve been eligible for over a week in VA but nobody said shit. To make matters worse, Fairfax County isn’t following the state guidelines. Anywho, I don’t know yet if it’s Pfizer/Moderna/J&J.

Dang man, glad to hear you’re all vaxxed up. Hopefully you can rest easy now and ease the anxiety.

DC's government legitimately sucks.

Well it doesn’t help that everyone from MD and VA who works in DC has pretty much come into DC to take their vaccines and fuck off, meanwhile MD prioritized their residents and didn’t clearly state DC residents were welcome. They do some non legalize bullshit by using the term “Marylanders” in all of their requirements, but in the fine print they say everyone is welcome.

Thank you

Thanks LN7, yeah I've handled it better as the year wore on, but I definitely had the worst anxiety of my life that first month of lockdown (along with millions of others I'm sure.)

My wife and I get our second Pfizer doses in a couple days (helps to work in a university). My dad got his first dose, but I just found out that my mom, who is my dad’s primary caretaker (he had polio as a kid and his mobility has gotten progressively worse with age), has decided that she’s not getting vaccinated. :|

Among her “justifications” are:

-the vaccines are experimental and not even real vaccines (false)
-All the vaccines contain fetal tissue (false)
-She doesn’t want to live in fear, man (if you read her Facebook page, she’s afraid of A LOT. Mainly socialists, marxists, communists, BLM, antifa, etc...)
-Our deaths are pre-ordained anyway, so... (this is just bonkers. She claims to be a devout Catholic, and this is not a Catholic belief in any way)

Prior to her deciding she’s not getting vaccinated, all of my siblings and I were crystal clear with my parents that we’re not visiting until they’re both vaccinated. We’re preparing ourselves for quite a battle, and lots of guilt trips, but she brought this on herself. I hope my dad can snap from the right wing funk enough to push back on her.

Got appointments for me and my wife this Saturday. It will require a short drive to Staten Island but I’m not complaining.

This is so frustrating.

A good friend of mine says his Mom (super Catholic) is also refusing it on the basis that it's made of fetal tissue. He's sent her many articles and back up that should dispel these claims, but hey, the priest mentioned it kinda sorta plus she read it on FB. There is no getting through to these people unfortunately. And in my opinion any clergy that is passing on this nonsense should have their tax-exempt status stripped. You'd be surprised how quickly they'd have their come to Jesus moment on vaccination then.

Sounds like a couple of my aunts. Same kind of family battle. They want to all get together since we didn't have a Christmas party last year, and my parents are saying "not until everyone has a vaccine'.

The fetal tissue thing is pretty ironic considering the right wing's god and savior Donald Trump shot himself full of Regeneron, a medication tested on fetal tissue, to save his own life from a fake disease concocted by the left to destroy him.
