A point that is troubling.

They keeping talking about debris but have not picked up any piece
and identified as part of the plane. No concrete evidence.

Another thing that has puzzled me is why I have heard dozens of
"experts" say that this is not any act of terrorism because a group
has not come forward to claim responsibility.

If the plane was hijacked, it evidently was a well thought out plan.
Why would the terrorists want to claim responsibility?

A better plan would be to let the world frantically search and eventually abandon the search.

And then wait....months....or years....and then use the plane
as a weapon.

You hijack a plane full of people for its immediate value - blackmail via hostages. If only theft of a plane was the goal, why on earth would you pick a very very large plane from a major airliner with 200+ potential opposition people to 'deal with' in a location presumably some great distance from your destination? Pretty unlikely, to say the least. It's possible it was hijacked - maybe political, maybe immediate terrorism - but it wouldn't have been theft and whatever it was, unless it was suicide, it went wrong.

-Terrorists don't always go for instant effect. Years went by between the first World Trade Center bombing and 9/11. We tend to have a short term view...they don't.

-If this is what happened, it was well planned. They had a flight plan and a well hidden prepared place to go.

-They chose a country where security is not a strict. Weapons might have been smuggled onboard.

-The passengers could be held as hostages to be used later.

I know I'm just speculating...but I still won't believe it crashed until they
have concrete evidence. It might remain a mystery.

... He addressed basically all of that in his post, which you barely read if at all.

There is just as much evidence that the plane went North as it was abducted by aliens.

There isn't a single iota of credible evidence that points to this plane heading North. All evidence is South. The only thing that was reported, that I heard, was some eyewitnesses in the Maldives saying they saw a low flying plane...at like 4 or 5 am. When it was pitch dark outside. So, yeah.

The smartest people on Earth that do this sort of thing, from intelligence to the aviation industry, spanning countries across the globe, are all looking in the same place - because that's clearly where the plane was headed. So the plane went South. And if it did, it's now at the bottom of the ocean.

Because, ask yourself - if that's where it was headed - where would it have landed? The Outback? And the Aussies just missed it? There is quite literally nowhere else it could have gone, and it might even be a stretch to say it had enough fuel to get to Australia...why am I even addressing this? I might as well explain why it didn't land on the moon.

Isn't it common knowledge that, if a 777 runs out of fuel, the passengers can stick their arms out the window, flap them like wings, and keep the plane afloat?

Developing story:

CNN will struggle with viewers' respect as it leans more toward TMZ and supermarket tabloid territory

to me, these are the reasonable assumptions,

the plane went down in the ocean, everybody that was on-board is dead
finding a wreckage site is increasingly not likely

there are countless debris in the oceans, whole containers fall off of large transport ships all the time, not to mention crap that is just dumped out there when no one is looking, reports of sightings will yield nothing conclusive

however, many months from now on distant shores, pieces of drivers licenses, passports, credit cards, etc will wash up. when this happens (most) family members that are holding on to these crazy conspiracy theories will finally let go of them

Thanks for that - thoroughly enjoyed it, enough to finally pay for an Atlantic subscription that I'd let lapse.

If there is anything positive to be taken from the conclusion it's that the people on board died relatively peacefully.

Nevertheless the whole thing is appalling.
