I only saw a small portion of the trial, but from what I did see it did appear that at least one person on the jury could find reasonable doubt. It's just such an empty feeling, no justice for that little girl. So either you buy the drowning theory or you think she got away with murder, I guess.

Some people are saying it's another OJ type of verdict. I can't say since I didn't see the entire trial. I just hope she doesn't get book deals, etc.

The jurors have declined to speak to the media, so maybe we'll never know what went on. I would like to just know their reasoning. I could think she did it but still see reasonable doubt, so then you have to acquit. I would never want to sit on a jury and have to make that decision in that type of case. No cause of death, no direct evidence of her guilt. Circumstantial case.

After 33 days of testimony, 400 pieces of evidence and more than 90 witnesses, the jury in the Casey Anthony case has reached a verdict.

After just a day of deliberation, jurors informed the court at midday that they had reached a decision, and both sides in the case were ordered to assemble in the courtroom.

Anthony has been found not guilty of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. She was also found not guilty of aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child. But she was convicted on charges of misleading law enforcement.

The case against Anthony was mostly circumstantial, but as it unfolded she was portrayed in the trial as a promiscuous, self-centered woman who became a cold-blooded killer. The motive, prosecutors alleged, was to allow her to live a carefree life without her daughter.

The state's case theory was that a desperate Anthony used chloroform to subdue her daughter and then suffocated her with duct tape. Anthony then fabricated fantastic lies to cover up her deeds, they said.

Anthony's attorney Jose Baez told the jury his client was the victim of an abusive upbringing.

According to Baez, Casey Anthony and her father, George Anthony, were home alone on June 16, 2008, when they noticed Caylee was missing. They began a frantic search, looking under beds and in the garage. Then George Anthony took the search outside to the above-ground pool where they found a lifeless Caylee floating in the water, Baez said.

For six weeks, the jury listened to arguments from both sides.

“The best ‘evidence’ of reasonable doubt is the worldwide interest in this case. Clearly, if conviction appeared to be a foregone conclusion, the interest would not be so extraordinary and clearly would have waned in any event,” famed Seattle attorney Anne Bremner said in an interview with The Huffington Post.

From the trial’s start, Bremner has followed the case as a legal analyst for CNN’s Nancy Grace and for other news networks.

“Jose Baez sowed the seeds of reasonable doubt in this case,” Bremner continued. “There was no cause of death, no direct evidence of Casey's guilt and no evidence that this wasn't an accident. While Casey has been demonized by many, we have seen here that the highest calling of citizenship is jury duty, and these jurors did their duty despite tremendous public pressure to rush to judgment. Justice requires that we respect and accept their decision.”

The acquittal of Casey Anthony will go down in history as a stunning victory for the defense in what has been called the latest “trial of the century.”

If convicted of murder, Anthony, 25, could have faced the death penalty.

I have a very small familiarity with this case, and only found out about it about three days ago. But, from what I gather, there were holes in the case that make this outcome not surprising.

As upset as I am that little Caylee got no justice, I understand that there wasn't any proof that her death was premeditated. It could've been an accident, but through child abuse rather than the ridiculous lie of Caylee drowning in the pool.

I hope Casey gets sentenced for many years for lying to the police, if possible. She's supposed to have been found guilty on four counts of that.

They didn't have to find premeditation, they could have found her guilty of second degree or manslaughter.

Lying to police would supposedly be four years, and she might just walk on time served.

Yeah. Reasonable doubt and all that. Sounds to me like the prosecution failed to do their job well enough.

Did I read correctly that there was no autopsy done on the remains (ugh, so awful to type that)? That there was nothing done that would have even estimated cause of death and/or murder weapon? How the hell do you skip that part when you're trying to prove that she was murdered and by whom?

It's extremely difficult to build a case on almost purely circumstantial evidence, no matter how stacked it is. Especially in this day and age, where the difference between reasonable doubt and beyond seems to be DNA and DNA only.

I rarely follow these cases,

but in the OJ case, the first one, the jury got it right.

good chance this jury got it right, too.

Yeah. Reasonable doubt and all that. Sounds to me like the prosecution failed to do their job well enough.

I think it was a case that nothing could be done. The body had decomposed passed the point of being useful in that matter (At least, I think that's what I had heard).

Yeah, the body was too decomposed. They found it six months after she was reported missing I think.

Anyways, some people are comparing this to the OJ Simpson trial. I don't really think they have a whole lot in common, other than the prosecution both did a terrible job. OJ Simpson largely got off because of racial issues. There was more than enough physical evidence to convict him. And like I said, the prosecution didn't do its job.

In the Casey Anthony trial, the prosecution didn't lay out a clear version of what they believed happened. They simply said, "Here's the facts, here's what we know about her and what she did, now you go ahead and put a scenario together in your mind about what happened." Thats far from beyond a reasonable doubt. I'm no legal expert, but I think what they should have done is put together a scenario themselves, from what would have made the most sense for her to have done, and presented that. It's still not beyond a reasonable doubt, but I think it would have went better with the jury.

In the end there simply wasn't enough physical evidence to convict Casey beyond a reasonable doubt. Unfortunately, there's nothing to disprove the defense's "theory" that she drowned in their pool. Casey probably did it, we all know that. It's just too bad. I think hell has a special spot reserved for her.

Anyways, I can't wait for the lawyers on both sides to get book deals!

Poor Kaylee.

There was no cause of death. But there were many lies being told by Casey Anthony, and her parents. She let her daughter "go missing" and continued on with the search. I know deep in my heart that she is responsible for Caylee's death. I don't believe that she planned it, though, but she's responsible. Her behavior that followed raised a lot of red flags with me. And when the verdict was read, her parents, stoned faced- left the courtroom immediately. they were obviously shocked and perhaps even disgusted because they know that Casey was responsible.
I don't believe for one minute that she drowned in a pool, but I am pretty sure that Casey accidentally killed her daughter in a desperate attempt for freedom.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY BOOKS, MEDIA, MOVIES, ETC REGARDING THIS CASE BECAUSE THE MONEY WILL GO TO CASEY ANTHONY AND HER FAMILY.

(and OJ was guilty, everyone knows it. He just basically confessed in his book.)

I watched a lot of this trial. I'm one of those nerds that watches the ID channel so I was familiar with several of the people who testified as expert witnesses ("Dr. G", the DNA expert from the Netherlands, etc). Originally I started watching because of the K9 handlers' testimony, then got sucked in by the computer forensics (I work in IT). I do believe that Casey is responsible in some capacity but the DA was going all or nothing, this was a capital murder trial. Though I watched a lot of the trial I didn't watch enough to really say how I would have voted but it was definitely a complicated mess.

As for the autopsy I don't know that a full autopsy was in any way possible given the state of the remains. The medical examiner's office did their full investigation and everyone involved from that office (including "Dr. G" the chief medical examiner) testified. The ruled the manner of death homicide with undetermined cause. OK fair enough given the state of the remains but then the prosecution for whatever reason felt they had to offer up a cause of death and then insisted she was suffocated with the duct tape but this was not really corroborated by any of the expert witnesses except one guy whose testimony was ripped apart by the defense. The more the prosecution tried to offer up an explanation, the more complicated it became.

Supposedly the parents left the courtroom early because the police told them they would be at their house after the verdict-so it was for security reasons. And to get them out of there before the media could attack them.

This is the statement they released

While the family may never know what has happened to Caylee Marie Anthony, they now have closure for this chapter of their life. They will now begin the long process of rebuilding their lives.

Despite the baseless defense chosen by Casey Anthony, the family believes that the jury made a fair decision based on the evidence presented, the testimony presented, the scientific information presented and the rules that were given to them by the Honorable Judge Perry to guide them.

The family hopes that they will be given the time by the media to reflect on this verdict and decide the best way to move forward privately.

The family also wanted the public to know that if anyone wanted to honor Caylee by leaving stuffed animals or other toys at any area near their home, that they would prefer those items be donated in Caylee' s name to families in need, religious centers, or any other entity where the toys would be appreciated.

It certainly does appear that there was all kinds of dysfunction in that family, even if half the allegations were untrue.

So if it was an accident, since Casey and George were both home..Caylee drowned and they are both covering for each other (or one for the other) and no one wanted to notify the police of an accident or even tell the police at any point that it was an accident. So rather than do that they let Casey go on trial for murder and face the death penalty. OK.

I don't really buy the drowning theory. Dr. G made some solid statements about how she has never in x-years of medicine seen a child drown and the parents try to cover it up. Unfortunately, kids drowning is not an unbelievably rare occurrence and in her experience, EVERY single time the parents have immediately called 911 because as a parent you can't believe your child is gone, they *always* believe there is some hope the child could be saved. Her testimony kind of focused on the circumstantial evidence and how what the defense was claiming just never happens. People don't toss their child's body in the woods like that, even if the death was an accident. But, circumstantial evidence is just that....

unfortunately the lying to the police stuff is a misdemeanor.. And she has already served over 2 yrs in jail..So the most likely scenario is she won't serve any time and get out tomorrow or soon.

sad commentary

Looks like she's hitting the lottery. Unfortunately it won't bring her daughter back.

msnbc.com

ORLANDO, Fla. — The verdict on the murder charge was "not guilty," and Casey Anthony likely will soon be a free woman. The question now is, "What's next?"

She could take advantage of interest in the case to make a lot of money, according to People magazine writer Steve Helling.

"We are looking at networks, magazines that may pay; that will lead to books and movies, and (Casey) can make a lot of money off that," Helling told NBC station WESH-TV.

Helling said he doesn't count out the jurors from making serious cash, too, but it won't be near as much as Anthony can fetch if and when she does talk.

But if Anthony decides to talk, Helling said, she will have to be forthcoming with her answers.

"If she doesn't answer the real questions, you are going to see a revolt. (People) want answers. Even though she was acquitted, what does she have to say for herself?" Helling said.

Anthony is likely to be inundated with offers, some with big money attached.

“I would not be surprised, given the notoriety and infamy of the case, if Casey gets $1 million to give a full interview,” California defense attorney and legal analyst David Wohl told Fox News.

Florida law prohibits a person convicted of a crime from profiting from that crime. But in the Anthony case, she wasn't convicted of murder and so should be free to talk about aspects of her daughter's death, said Fort Lauderdale criminal attorney William Moore, senior partner at Alitowski & Moore.

"She can make all the money she wants," Moore told msnbc.com.

Helling said that People will not pay Anthony or her family for an interview because their readers may boycott the magazine.

The boycott already began Tuesday as user Mar4L posted on Twitter, "Start it now. Boycott all books and movies about Casey Anthony. No one should profit from the death of Caylee Anthony."

On Facebook, a page titled "Boycott Casey Anthony Books/Movie Deals etc!!! KEEP HER in the Poorhouse" had more than 700 "Likes" as of Wednesday morning.

Anthony reportedly has already been approached to star in a porn film.

Hours after Tuesday's verdict, Steve Hirsch, co-founder of adult-video producer Vivid Entertainment, called Anthony's lawyer, Jose Baez, to discuss the possibility of a business relationship, TMZ reported.

"Whether you agree with the verdict or not, Casey will want to move forward with her life and has a right to make a living. It’s not going to be easy for her and we believe we can help her make the transition into a new life," Hirsch told TMZ.

"We’ve all seen the pictures of her partying and having a good time with friends where she definitely looks hot."

Hirsch said he hasn't heard back yet on his offer.

I wouldn't watch Casey on TV or read her interviews online. She's clearly a pathologial liar, and will create more lies because she loves to do so.

That HLN channel is scary. That Jane Velez Mitchell :yikes: She was chasing the defense lawyers down the street a few days ago-on camera.

Of course they won the ratings for the verdict, and their overall ratings have probably skyrocketed.

Maybe Casey will get her own talk show  Or run for office.

all i can say is that i found this whole thing to be hilarious. people were literally losing their shit in the break room at my work. it's like they literally new the little girl.

i of course acted like i was happy with the verdict just to get under their skin.

what would her opinion be on the "No Child Left Behind" program?

You are a sick man

I've had three years of this case being rammed down my throat. Prosecution did an A+ shit job with the investigation.

Now can we all fucking move on? People were punching each other to get seats at this trial. Talk about macabre!

My other point was that I can't believe it's only a misdemeanor to lie to the police about an ongoing investigation. Casey is still gonna be able to vote after all this? It should be a felony at the least. All those cops running around looking for a nanny that never existed? Bullshit.

Reading some of the comments on the news articles has me once again feeling embarrassed to be an American :|

Casey's in court constantly fixing her long locks. She's ready for her closeup.

That lawyer of hers who was jumping up and down in the restaurant like a child after she took a picture of the media with her cell phone..she was Casey's minder in the courtroom. How old is she? What a fool. Way to keep Caylee in mind too.

Classy

Supposedly her old conviction for check fraud is a felony. But lie to police about your dead child and cost the state millions of dollars and make up a fake babysitter and accuse her of taking your child..nah, that's ok.

The woman who has the same name as the fake babysitter is suing her-she was served yesterday. The state of Florida is also going after her for costs related to the case.

She got 4 consecutive 1 year sentences with credit for time served.

I hope there isn't too big a delay in her lottery windfall. That wouldn't be fair.
