I read the article several times - I just figured I had to be misinterpreting what he was actually saying. I can't figure out what he's actually trying to say, because honestly, I don't actually think he's saying child porn is in any way okay.

He shouldn't really say ANYTHING about anything remotely connected to sexual abuse, considering how complicit and/or silent the church has been in years of abuse, but .... that's not actually what he's saying, right? Right???

I have read it over and over too, and I can't figure out what the hell he is trying to say either. I do know that some priests that have taught me religious ed in university do not like this Pope.

In assessing Benny's latest comments, I guess it depends on one's starting point and one's particular biases and opinions.

Mine is that Benedict is an evil old Nazi-supporting, child-abuse covering up sociopath, so I may be biased on this.

I'm assuming there's more to back up the claim that Kinsey justified pedophilia - right or wrong though the thought about hysteria might be, that bit of quote doesn't exactly say "hey, pedophilia ain't so bad!"

He's saying because it wasn't looked upon as bad then, he felt it was OK to reinstate a priest who was a pedophile.

Correct, he's not randomly saying "pedophilia was pretty chill in the 70s." He's saying "I gave my buddy a job despite his pedophilia because it was pretty chill in the 70s."

The Pope really has no effect on American Catholics.
