The Tea Party only puts up with more subtle, sophisticated racism?

Nope. Unless you have ever been to one, you'll have that in your mind I guess. The Tea Party is not even an org. There are many, many "Tea Party" groups of all races, creeds etc. Never saw one yet that had hatred or racism.

There will always be some that try, but they have a very effective means of policing these people, and making sure they dissapear, or if appropriate, arrested. Or asked to leave nicely once. They have a film log of everyone at every event thatis borderline in any way. It has been very effective.

No arrests yet, which is in itself amazing.

PS Williams was ejected from any form of the Tea Party today for his words. He is gone. From Tea Party anyway.

Or Lynrd Skynrd for that matter. Some how both seem to get a pass. I don't know why. But even I'm not incensed about those examples and I have no good explanation for that.

I knew it was spelled wrong but I was too lazy to correct it. I've been kind of ruined by spell check and they don't have it on hear.

Whatever happened to Benji anyway? He disappeared as suddenly as he arrived.

you have to go to school for about 14 years. Doesnt help I am always using a different keyboard. Never the same size laptop. But we get a pass, that is why we dictate, rather than write. They say it is much worse.

I am actually in costa Rica. We are going to the Robert Mueller school of howling tommorow. The co-founder of Gloabal warming, or climate crisis, or whatever it is called these days.

should be fun. I will be in Paris on the 25th, for the LAF party. Bono is suppose to be there. That will be fun.It always is a wild party.

racism is obviously worse when it's against white people.

it's also better for ratings.

Also seems to work wonders when it comes to putting an increasingly inconsequential "civil rights" organization and their new "I see racist people" chairman back in the news and on the front page for a day.

Scary fundraising letters soon to follow.

Every white person is not racists. You chose your way to deal with it. Nobody made you and you had a choice. "Rebel by Choice" in my journal. I wanted to fit in." You had a choice.

You want to see reverse racism, go watch smithermen speak. He hates everyone if they are not black and militant.

I know that not every white person is a racist. My wife is white. So are several members of my immediate family.

Well, actually, I do think racism is part of the human condition so I think everyone has a bit of racism to one degree or another. Both my wife and I struggled with racist thinking while living and working overseas--not towards black or whites-but towards some of the ethnic groups we worked with out there. Ironically, it became easier to fall into racist thinking patterns the longer we lived there because the more we mistakenly thought we "knew" how these other cultures "worked." You know the kind of: "Oh, Ethnic Group X are lazy and just want government jobs where they sit on their ass and do nothing" thinking. Or "Ethnic Group Y is so pushy; they're all complainers." You learn just enough to think you have the other group "figured out."

If you read my post carefully, you'll note that I was in no way blaming the people around me for my desire to "fit in." What I was doing was explaining the speculation I'm tempted to make about the motivations of the Black Americans involved in the Tea Party.

that's kind of their job, isn't it? to point out racism and tell people to stop? that's what they've been doing for a long time.

you're free to tell the NAACP that they're not needed anymore because no one is ever racist (except against white people), but i'm not sure you're in much of a position to tell them how to do their job.

Does that include the dog whistle racism only liberals can hear in coded words like "welfare reform","states rights", and "socialism" (the new n-word you know)?

Remember, we learned in Massachusetts that even pickup trucks are racist.

I would hope one day you would actually tackle the subject that was being discussed here in FYM rather than pansy foot around the typical BS am radio scenarios that you hear from your gods.

When you're up to it, let us know...

No , I am not saying that.

I will use my life as an example. I came from a very small midwestern town. There was one black kid in my school, and he lived with a white famliy. It really didnt register about skin color. Can't remember a time when it ever came up, or was an issue deep down. Doug was doug, and he was our friend.

There wasn't any "racism" so to speak, so I wasn't really exposed to it , except for Archie Bunker , which I actually saw last week for the first time in a long time, and the question dawned on me. Was Archie really a racist? Sure, he said all the sterotypes, but was he really, in the end as racist? I would say no. It was his way of expressing what he didn't know, or maybe a better way of saying it was the change to what had always been his life, in Queens, NY. Despite all his quirks, or views of an ordinary , life long life in queens, it became his way of dealing with the nervousness of a changing world, which to him, was his neighborhood.

In the end, he like George Jefferson, and Louise . He would joke with him, but he was always there for him. It was a brilliant, thought provoking show, way ahead of it's time. There were a lot of Archies in the world, and the show brought the issue to everyday, mainstream America. It was his ignorance that cause the fear and words, and as time passed, the ignorance passed. It helped with people in real life also.

But back to me. At age 12, my Mom, who was also a Dr( single mother who put herself through school) got a Job in South Florida. We moved and my school ( middle school) was on the Border of Hollywood and Hallandale. The school was 60 % black, easily, and they were not like Doug. Not threatening, but tougher than what I was used to. The first thing that happened to me was some older kids) black , walked up to me and said " give me your lunch money. I thought they were joking. They were not. This began a month or so of very severe harrassment. Physically, and otherwise. I am not sure these kids even went to the school. They would follow me home, and throw organges at me, rocks, you name it. I also has a redneck brother and sister ( and they were redneck) and his kid was to try to get me into a fight with his sister. I never fell for it , and just took the hits.

I noticed a black guy watching all this. Big, strong quiet guy. He started walking behind me a b;ock or so as i walked home. I wouldn't fight the sister , so then he started. I never said anything to anyone. I was afraid to.It was something I had never experienced before. The big quiet guy one day , out of the blue, went after the redneck brother, who was taking over. This particular day there were some other black guys playing the game . I never ran, but felt I should. I just kept my head up and walked.

My escort went ballistic on all of them. One by one, he was like Bruce Lee, throwing them all over the place , and he hurt some of them pretty bad. One thing for sure, they never bothered me again. This guy had been following me home, since my first day, when they stole my lunch money. He saw it, and walked 2 miles out of his way as he knew I would have problems. Was this rascism? I don't know, but in looking back in could have been I had no reference point.

This young man became my best friend. we went everywhere together, played tennis, etc, and I was at his house or he at mine. Neither one of our families had an money, so we started paper routes etc, so we could do things. He allowed me to gain confidence, and respect, in my own way . His family, and mine him, tore down any misconceptions he had, and helped me to never form any .

We remain best friends to this day. Butch went on to be the tight end for the Buffalo Bills and St Louis cardinals ( or whoever they are now) and his sons, both earned there way with academic scholarships, and walked on to the Football Program. Samari Rolle was an all-star and all pro for the Titians and his grandson just got a scholrship. All 3 got there degrees, as has everyone else in the family did also. 2 are Drs.

I only write this as I understand what you are saying , from another side. Because Of what I learned early on, I don't like at skin color. I look at hearts. Looking at skin color is too meaningless to me. All of our blood is red, and all our bodies are the same.

I went to school in Atlanta, and John Lewis was my rep. He would come into the bars every week to talk to people. I helped Hosea Williams with his thanksgiving meals, and personally know Andrew Young, Knew the Kings and that whole group. I heard the stories, and they are sickning and frighting. They are unacceptable in our society.

I expressed this to john not long ago. I disagree with ANYONE who uses the race card. I see it being used quite a bit right now, and it is a toss up who is using it for what.

I know Chris Smittern in Cincinnati, and he, Rev Lynch ( the son) and Nate Livingstion have made a good living out of the hate. Anyone who doesnt understand these 3 are racists, well. I am not sure what to say. They hate everyone who is not millitant. On the otherside, this Williams guy, whom i only read his 'letter " the other day, was kick out of ANY and all tea Party anything. he is gone. Anyone who used anything like that , is gone in an instant.

I was asked at the beginning to be a something for the tea party. I thought about it and declined for one reason. Any group of people, Unions, classs elections, National elections, anyone, always has the inherent danger of becomeing the very thing they hate. In this case Politics.

There is a lot of Politics going on, of the worst kind, and I see a lot of the race card being played. I think some of it was part of the plan. I am not playing this game. There is no time for hate.

I know this is different than what you wrote CS, but is it really so different? we both can take lesson learned and use those lessons to make us stronger as people. yes, things hurt, and things suck, but we can only grow and learn, and teach others not to fall into the same traps, or conflicts. I know your story wasn't easy, as mine wasn't. we can come to understand it for what it was, and fight it from happening again.

You didnt do it, and I didnt do it. Sharing your story ( I appreciate that ) helps educate others.

I am not blind to it, but everyone around me, everyone I work with and know, none of them say Black this, or any of the racial slurs. we are a melting pot of people In S Florida, be it color, nationality , orientation whatever. nobody pays it any attention. Isms will always exist, but in many places, it is the very few. One day, they will learn or go away.

It has come a long way. I personally, will not let ANY politician or ____ get in the way of we, the people.

One day, this is after weeks

Thanks for your post.

It's unsavory term, yes, and not one I'd be likely to use, but what it means is not without merit. Do you know what a so-called "Uncle Tom" is?

I'm sure Mfume would agree that any African-American is entitled to his or her opinion. He is also entitled to think that opinion is stupid and self-hating.

From the article:
" As far as Mfume and the rest of the NAACP leadership is concerned, any display of a Confederate flag is inherently racist."

Um, YEAH. I'm sorry, but any display of the Confederate flag that is intended to honor and show respect to the Confederacy IS inherently racist. Period. End of story. Granted, there may be whites who don't understand that and thus display the flag without any racist intent, but that is ignorance. They don't understand what the flag means to most black people. The flag belongs in a museum. The Confederacy should not be lauded, honored, respected at all. It stood for Americans being willing to fight and die to for their states' right to enslave other human beings. It is a shame. Not only that but it has continued to be used by racist groups such as the KKK that desire to keep black people down.

To be honest, every time I see that flag on a car or in front of a house, it makes me feel just a little nervous.

It is what happened after the War, that disturbs me the most. allowing millions of blacks to starve in spite of their new freedom, is one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. They aloowed the Soutern land owners, to continue what happened before the war, to continue, which in my eyes, dimishing anything that was accomplished by the war. Which was essentially nothing.

It was one of the worst examples of the new "freedom" , besides the obvious, that I have ever seen.

Of course you are right, some of the things like croatia , Bosnia, was pretty bad in it'self. It still goes on to this day.

There is a store in Canton Ga, who's whole deal is celebrating the civil war. I am not one that usually says " that should be gone, but this store makes me sick to my stomache . atrocious !!!

But at the same time, things that Smitherman,Rev Lynch ( whose father was a hero of the civil rights movment ) say amd prech every single day , that are no different than the other haters , like the owners of this store. They preach hate , pure, evil hate. The scary thing is people still buy into it . Oh, lets add Nate Livingston to that group.

I often wonder what MLK would say about what is going on these days . On both sides. I don't think he would be silent about it.

"Confederate flag is inherently racist" In general , I would agree to that. There are a few who have never read a history book, and think it means " Freebird", but that would be a small group.

Have you seen the documentary Beck did on the Black hero's of the foundation of this country? It is a fantastic piece, mysteriously scrubbed by the history books. He is on a mission to put it back in.

Let me see if I can get permission to link it in it's entirety . It was a wonderful , hopefull, and something not very well known today, but there were many, many hero's, black heros. that deseserve to be there.

"maybe to Democrats credit it was only after all that and the plane crashing into the IRS building and the Times Square bomber couldn't be pinned on Tea Baggers that the race card got played. "

Wait a minute. The race card wasn't played until the IRS plane crash ( irate tazpayers have been doing stufff like that for years btw, Wesley Snipes, just in without the plane) and the Time Square bombing was when the race card was played?

Biden and Reids comments were WAY before that. before the election.

Do you think that is is POSSIBLE , repeat POSSIBLE that an articulate Black man was picked for a reason beyond his experience, or lack of? He or Hillary , were expected to push through some pretty radical legislation. Do you think it is remotely possible that having the card in the sleeve would be in anyway , a political edge ? I am not saying it is or isnt. But do you think it is possible ?

Polticians of all types think about that stuff you know.

"I'm sure Mfume would agree that any African-American is entitled to his or her opinion. He is also entitled to think that opinion is stupid and self-hating"

Does he think any American is entitled to his or her Opinion ? Does that other American have the right to think that opinion is stupid or self serving? Or is it a one way street?

Racism, no matter who says it, thinks it, or where it came from is to me, sick. But I am seeeing a lot of double standard in the world today.

Actually, the Klan had a relatively brief period of popularity in the 1860s -- formed in the South response to the Emancipation Proclamation and the aftermath of the Civil War -- but was virtually extinct by the 1870s, when the federal government began prosecuting them. The Klan didn't return to national prominence until after D.W. Griffith's "Birth of a Nation" in 1915, but by 1930 was once again defunct. The third wave of the Klan was created in response to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s, as well as the Civil Rights Act. They're a great example of what I'm talking about -- a mob that operates outside the law because it doesn't agree with said laws.

"Actually, the Klan had a relatively brief period of popularity in the 1860s -- formed in the South response to the Emancipation Proclamation and the aftermath of the Civil War --"

This would be a good time period to examine, particularly what was going on in the State of TN, and how it lead to a very violent time and resurgence of the clan.

Oh, I see it now, earlier I couldn't get it to scroll past the video.

Well good for the them, they did one thing right.

They do not tolerate this stuff. Not at all. They really don't, as being that there really is no leadership, when something like this happens, Nationally, or at a rally, it is quickly delt with.

They have ZERO tolerance for it. They don't accept it, nor do they need or want it.

There are way more one things that have happened in their history. Zero tolerance. It is not what they are about. In no shape or form.

Look, I'm glad they dealt with Williams and his blatant racism, but to say they have zero tolerance is just ridiculous and turning a blind eye on to what is going on. William's letter is by no means the first example that was shown, it was just probably the most public display by someone with a leadership role.

Tea party not a racist movement, Biden says - Politics - msnbc.com From the Vice President of the United States

when I say zero tolerance, that is from the ground up, sideways, and to the top.

Show me all these others please.

Then I will show you many, many blatant racist statements, in their own words, of reverse racisim.

Racism, in any form in unacceptable to many people. It would be the norm rather than the exception to not be with it. Against it would be a heavy majority.

William's letter is by no means the first example that was shown, it was just probably the most public display by someone with a leadership role.

Williams had a long and illustrious prior history of making racist comments long before he was finally booted for this letter. The man has been a public bigot for a very long time. In the event that you're unaware of what else he said before this letter, here are a few gems:

President Obama is an “Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug and a racist in chief.”

President Jimmy Carter is a "creepy faggot."

"[R]epeat after me: Islam is a 7th Century Death Cult coughed up by a psychotic pedophile and embraced by defective, tail sprouting, tree swinging, semi-human, bipedal primates with no claim to be treated like human beings or even desirable mammals for that matter."

when I say zero tolerance, that is from the ground up, sideways, and to the top.

And I say you're blind if you truly believe this. This thread is filled with examples that show otherwise.

There is a reason Beck has asked people not to bring signs to the next rally, he doesn't want people to expose their ignorance.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to ask. But, does anyone know what the Health Care Bill is really about? And what happens to those who chose private insurance coverage? Did Congress read it? And can we?
