From The Daily Kos:

Minnesota-based debt collection agency Gurstel Chargo is now facing a lawsuit for verbally abusing the Army vet over a $6,000 defaulted student loan, Courthouse News reports.
“If you would have served our country better you would not be a disabled veteran living off Social Security while the rest of us honest Americans work our asses off,” one of the agency’s debt collectors allegedly told the vet. “Too bad, you should have died.”

oh, i guess he forgot his IED deterctor one morning ..... :|

DISUSTING!

I'd like to know what exactly this guy would've needed to do to serve his country better than he already did?

Wow. What an asshole. The unidentified paralegal in that story sounds like a charming individual, too. Hope they get fired. I've heard about the abusive methods they use and it's insane they can get away with that. I have a friend who works at a debt collection agency and they insist she remain calm and try and work with the people no matter what the situation.

Romney was complaining about those goverment-dependent people who consider themselves "victims" and feel they are "entitled" to health care, housing and food.

so here's a disabled vet who's probably getting some kind of gov't assistance.

Romney was including veterans, whether or not that was his intention. VA disability isn't taxable income

Clearly some people like this collector think that even disabled vets are govt moochers. Some of the same people go around with their flag waving support the troops stuff. Just not on "their" dime.

Disabled vets should get off their lazy asses! Stop feeling so entitled!

I'd like these people to go even once to a VA hospital and tell them that to their faces. If they can even get past processing what they see there.

A bit of a stretch to link these comments to Romney when they have nothing to do with him

His comments are certainly part of a wider demonisation of those who require government help, which in turn seems to allow people to think they can make such comments on others.

The people who made these comments aren't exactly rich people. Some shit talking paralegal at a firm isn't causing the political rift the 53/47 story was talking about. He is an asshole, but he's not exactly the country's biggest problem.

No, he isn't- PF, you're def right on that....

But in general the usual talking points of the now mostly taken over Republican Party by the religious right-wing/tea party/ and uber-corporatists include the zeigeist of "government is bad", "entitlements are bad", "i made it, why can't you?", pulling up the ladder behind them, "i did it all on my own" "Social Security is Socialism"..... etc

.... this debt collector; there'as a good chance he is listening to Conservative Radio/or Faux News because spewing that stuff at that verteran. Conservative Talk Media is about 90% in America. And then Corporate can be their own problem.

Those Conservatives with power, either political, or communications-wise they are way more the problem. Still that was a viscious verbal attack and was inexcuseable in someone in whose they deal with the public.

have to disaree with you JT as per see above.
