Seems he's taken to using the Epiphone JCB-1 Jack Casady bass for Mysterious Ways.

I am convinced that Adam beat Edge in a card game and the winnings were LOTS of new bass guitars and amps.

That said... I did a bit more snooping around and it seems more likely that the bass in question is the GIBSON LES PAUL SIGNATURE bass and not the JACK CASADY.

I found this advert (below) and the bass and all the knobs and such match up to what is on Adam's. And with a closer look at the pic of Adam's, I don't see and Epiphone "E" on the pick guard.

The Jack Casady with the "E" pictured below

So no "E" on Adam's leads me to believe that it is indeed a Gibson Les Paul Signature bass and not the Epiphone Jack Casady.

Oh I didn't notice this! When did this happen?

Before he used the Epiphone Rivoli for Mysterious Ways(the same as for Boots).

 Wow Adam, you keep amazing me this tour!

Is Adam or Edge using more basses/guitars on this tour?

Yes he is using more... and using a lot that he's not used on stage in the past. AND there are NO Laklands to be seen anywhere. (So far)

He's not just using Bass "A" always for song "1". He has switched some things up some.

Here are some of what Adam's using... from the top of my head:

  • Epiphone Rivoli - natural (also used a tobacco finished Rivoli during promo some promo shows)
  • Fender Jazz - gold sparkle
  • Fender Precision - Candy Apple Red
  • Fender Precision - white
  • Fender Precision - gold sparkle
  • Gibson Les Paul Signature - gold finish (Used for Mysterious Ways)
  • Gibson Triumph LP Recording Bass - white (used for "One")
  • Gibson RD Artist bass - natural finish
  • Warwick Streamer Stage 1 - dark brown (used for Electrical Storm a time or two)
  • Warwick Stryker - natural finish (Used for SBS, and a few other tunes)

No, I was wondering whether Adam is not using more guitars than Edge, who is famous for switching guitars.

Here are some of what Adam's using... from the top of my head:

  • Epiphone Rivoli - natural (also used a tobacco finished Rivoli during promo some promo shows) (Get On Your Boots, early MW)
  • Fender Jazz - gold sparkle (Beautiful Day, Elevation, Unknown Caller, The Unforgettable Fire, Walk On)
  • Fender Precision - Candy Apple Red : (City of Blinding Lights)
  • Fender Precision - white (I Still Haven't Found, Ultra Violet, With or Without You, Moment of Surrender)
  • Fender Precision - gold sparkle (No Line on the Horizon, Vertigo, Crazy Tonight(remix), Streets, Until The End of the World)
  • Gibson Les Paul Signature - gold finish (Used for Mysterious Ways)
  • Gibson Triumph LP Recording Bass - white (used for "One")
  • Gibson RD Artist bass - natural finish (Magnificent)
  • Warwick Streamer Stage 1 - dark brown (used for Electrical Storm a time or two)
  • Warwick Stryker - natural finish (Used for SBS, Pride and Breathe)

I can add some songs to this. This is what he used for the shows I went to, Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin. :)

No, I was wondering whether Adam is not using more guitars than Edge, who is famous for switching guitars.

Well Edge this tour uses:
Epiphone Casino (Breathe, No Line..)
Fender Telecaster blonde (GOYB, Vertigo, Crazy remix)
Gretsch country gentleman (magnificent, COBL)
Gibson Explorer (Beautiful Day, IALW, AOH)
Gibson SG (Elevation)
Gibson Les Paul Music Rising (One, New Year's Day)
Gibson Les Paul goldtop (UTEOTW)
Gibson Les Paul cream (Unknown Caller, Walk On)
Fender Telecaster natural (TUF)
Fender Stratocaster sunburst (SBS, Pride)
Fender Stratocaster black (Streets)
Fender Stratocaster black and white (Bad, I still haven't found)
Fernandes Retrorocket black and white (UV)
Fernandes Retrorocket Black/sparkle (WOWY)
Rickenbacker 360/12 for Mysterious Ways
And I don't remember the MOS guitar. Nor have I take all guitars in account here, for songs only played a few times. So yeah, Edge still wins.

I don't know shit about acoustics, all I know there's a natural finish(Stuck) and a black/sunburst(Stay, Desire) one. And the rumoured 12 string, ofcourse. Were they Taylor/washburns? I remember something like that.

I'm compiling a list and miss a few guitars/basses.

Desire, both. The sunburst/blackish acoustic for Edge. I know Adam's using a gold sparkle, but can't find wether it's a precision or jazz from the vids(since he's turned around).
Party Girl?
Electrical Storm, what did Edge play?
IALW, what did Adam play? Can't find good video to see. All focus on Bono and Edge.

Can't edit the posts anymore, but for Bad in A'dam and Dublin I he used the red Precision. In Dublin III I think it was a Jazz.

How many goddamn basses does this guy need? Jesus. Come on!

"Don't hate, Don't HATE".

Adam is a big boy and can use as many as he wants.

Is Adam using more basses? Yes. Why? Because he can.

Is Edge making less guitar changes? Yes. Why? Because the rack is UNDER the stage. Dallas is making all the 'fine' adjustments and he's also doing a lot of the switching from underneath, as Edge isn't always in the 'command central' part in the front of the stage.

Busier Dallas means less time for tuning and prepping. And as Edge is all over the place on the stage (the whole 360 and all) Dallas would have to run all over to get him the next guitar.

Adam moves around too but a bit less than Edge. Hence, easier for Stuart to get the next bass out to Adam.

Well Edge this tour uses (A bit more added to Galeon's post:

  • 1962 Epiphone Casino (Breathe, No Line AND Electrical Storm)
  • 1966 Fender Telecaster blonde (GOYB, Vertigo, Crazy remix)
  • 1963 Gretsch Country Gentleman (magnificent, COBL)
  • 1976 Gibson Explorer (Beautiful Day, IALW, AOH)
  • 1966 Gibson SG (Elevation)
  • 2005 Gibson Les Paul Music Rising (One, New Year's Day)
  • 1982 or 1983 Gibson Les Paul 30th Anniversary Goldtop Les Paul Standard(UTEOTW)
  • 1975 Gibson Les Paul alpine white [faded to cream] (Unknown Caller, Walk On) - This IS the one that was auction.
  • 1970's Fender Telecaster natural ash finish (TUF)
  • 1962 Fender Stratocaster sunburst (SBS, Pride)
  • 1973 Fender Stratocaster black (Streets)
  • 1970's Fender Stratocaster black and white (Bad, I still haven't found)
  • Xxxx Fernandes Retrorocket black & white pickguard (UV)
  • 2002 Fernandes Retrorocket Black grey marble pickguard (WOWY)
  • 1966 Rickenbacker 360/12 mapleglo finish (Mysterious Ways)
  • 19xx Gretsch Double Anniversary - tobacco finish (MOS)

    Acoustics:
    • 2004 Gibson Pete Townshend J-200 - natural finish (Stuck...)
    • 2004 Gibson J-200 - natural finish (Stay, Desire)

There was a 12-string acoustic that was in some pics from the rehearsals. It 'appears' to be a Martin but I am not certain. I am pretty certain it isn't a Washburn and fairly certain that it isn't a Taylor.

Thanks Edge_O. :) Now I got the list updated, only song I still miss is Party Girl, but I'll find a video of that one to determine which acoustic it was.

Wow! This is the golden age for us bass players and Adam fans. I only need two more things:

1. A lengthy interview and full gear rundown in Bass Player magazine.

2. The buzzard onstage in Vegas or Pasadena.

1) Assuming there will be a Bass Player feature. They did one the last two tours. And heaven knows there is LOTS more to talk about since then.

2) I agree... a Buzzard siting in Vegas or Pasadena would be grand! I will be at the Phoenix show, as well as LA and LV... all are 'deserts communities' so to speak... One would expect to see a buzzard in the desert? :D

Time will tell.

Agreed full well on 1. And we need pics of Adam with the Buzzard!

And I don't mind where he goes on stage, as long as he does!

 Awesome pic, E_O. Two weeks. Vegas. My six year-old daughter's first U2 show. And Adam with a shit-ton of basses. Can't wait. :applaud:

That is a good picture, isn't it? I found that in another spot on interference. I hope to be able to get some good pictures of Adam and Edge's 'toys' when I see them - my shows are coming soon too.

I have Daniel Lanois at the Troubador on Oct 15th and then U2 in Phoenix Oct 2oth, Vegas Oct 23rd and Pasadena Oct 25th. Good times!

  • The rick is a 330/12 is it not? rather then a 360....

and did edge get the sold les paul back?

You are correct. Typo. It is a Rick 330/12.

And Edge did get the LP Custom back. After auction, Guitar Center had a travelling display of that, two of Claptons guitars and one of Stevie Ray Vaughn's. I went and took TONS of pictures of Edge's LP Custom.

I compared the nicked and dings in the finish to pics of the white LP Custom and it's dead on. There is a gouge in the lower bit near the guitar cable input. Saw the same big gouge in U2:360 pics.

Hey E_O, I was at that Daniel Lanois show too (earlier tonight). Awesome what you can do in a small club with a '53 Les Paul and an AC30, isn't it? And just to keep the thread on track: Adam should take a page from Daryl Johnson and bring back the thunderbird bass.

Looks like we will not see the Buzzard or the black Stryker (both seen in U2.com footage) at any of the live shows.

I was talking with someone from Warwick that said those two bass guitars plus a few others (The Streamer Stage 1 used for "Electrical Storm" July 2, 2009) were on loan to Adam to try out... until he decided on what model(s) he wanted to use.

Now, as we all know, he's settled on the various Reverso and the Star Bass, from Warwick.
