Hey all!

lets talk rickenbackers. I've just bought a brand new 330/12. I love it, its such a spectacular guitar and im so glad ive finally bought one.

Anyone else got a rickenbacker?

Chris

I have a 2002 burgundy-glo Rickenbacker 330 VP (6-string).

VP? (Vintage Pickups)

Fantastic tone. Fun guitar. And in rare burgundy-glo finish.

Would love to have a Ric 12-string someday. It's on the 'list of things to get'.

Did you get it with vintage pickups or the hi-gain pickups.

What finish?

Post some pictures?

Always great to see others get great new gear.

Congrats!

obviously from the pictures you can tell i went with hi-gains and fireglo. i hear the VP's have a really nice tone, but they are a lot lower in output which is already a problem i have atm.

First, that guitar is gorgeious.

Second, if you like the tone of the hi-gains you are set.

That said, the vintage pickups will give you a truer vintage 1960's Ric tone.

I aksed Dallas about Ric p'ups during the Elevatin tour, before I bought my Ric. His answer was short but sweet "Definitely go with the vintage pickups".

yeah occasionally the fireglo finish actually comes in that gorgeous red through to gold type colouring (rather then throught to a pink) which is what i love. i would have waited for another one if it hadnt have been this perfect!

shes a bit heavier then my gretsch nashville. suprisingly light and the most perfectly balanced neck and body weight wise i've ever played. loving her.

If you were going to wait for a Fireglo finish like Edge's you might be waiting a really really long time.

The red to pink is the version of FIREGLO that Ric has made for years. Your looks to have less pink, in the pics you posted. There was a period when the center was very light (mid-1990's, when I had my first Fireglo, was like that)

Current available colors
Fireglo (FG) - a sunburst color; deep dark red that fades into a lighter maple center
Jetglo (JG) - black
Mapleglo (MG) - Natural
Midnight Blue (MID) - Dark blue

That said, they used to make a "Finish Of The Year". I got my burgundyglo in early 2003. It was the 2002 Finish Of The Year.

Colours of the year for the 2000's:
2000 - Sea Green / Turqoise
2001 - Desert Gold
2002 - Burgundyglo
2003 - Montezuma Brown - similar to tobacco sunburst
2004 - Montezuma Brown - similar to tobacco sunburst. There was a limited edtion for Japan in "Blue Boy" (light blue finish)
2005 - Blue Burst (Dark to lighter blue)
2006 - Amber Fireglo (like Edge's fireglo finish)
2007 (to present) - Seems they have discontinued the finish of the year program since 2006.

They did make the fireglo (with the amber in it) like Edge's/vintage style and called it Amber Glo, as a Finish of the Year a few years back - but it was just for that year.

They do not make the Fireglo finish like The Edge's vintage Ric's any longer.

yeah EO, im aware of that finish of the year business. Lucky for me that although it isnt quite as amber in the middle, it is still quite close in colour compared to most new rics.

Yours looks great. And you are correct, that yours looks a lot more like the vintage amber fireglo than the more recent Rics.

Looking forward to hearing some clips! Maybe a youtube video of you playing some U2 on the Ric? "Angel of Harlem"? (originally played on the Ric 12-string) "Even Better Than The Real Thing"? "Mysterious Ways"? "Gone"?

Wow a blue one!? *Google*:shifty: That Ric is seriously taking all the saliva from my mouth!:lol: Like my friend said when we went fishing, great catch!:wink: I hope that when I get to heaven there will be a room of every guitar I've ever wanted, made exactly to detail like I want. My instant reaction--->:faint:
