Purple sparkle Precision for Adam. Nice!

At first I thought "Could it be the lighting or the way the photo was treated?"

But I have subsequently seen TWO different piccies... so it looks like he got one refinished. Maybe the dark purple one seen during the studio pics? Maybe the burgundy mist one refinished? Maybe a different one all together that was refinished?

Anyone know what show that was from? I'd like to see if there is YouTube footage of it - to verify. :Y

Whatever bass was refinished, hope it sounds as striking as it looks. Cause THAT is one great looking Precision Bass.:D:applaud::hyper:

Seems to have had it's initial use at the Foxboro show. I looked at YouTube and saw that he was still using the gold sparkle Precision in Chicago.

Cool that he's using so many cool bass guitars...

Gold and the sparkle Precisions, Gold sparkle Jazz, Gold finish Gibson Les Paul bass, white Gibson Les Paul Recording bass, Warwick Stryker, Epiphone Rivoli...

Good fun.

I love it WAY more than the gold!! Purple is my fave colour next to blue, but I think I like this colour more than my dark blue Pbass!!

Do you have any clue about the guitar strap he's wearing with this bass btw? :hmm: I really really like it, so I wonder if it's buy-able online!

This tour has been nothing less than pure porn for any bassist/bass nerd! All the new goodies, and the Precisions! OH man! :combust:

Possibly save to have your Precision refinished? Might be pricey but would be worth it in the end.

I don't think Adam's bass strap is store bought. Looks like a custom job. But I am looking more into it. I like that strap too! I will let you know what I find out.

Funny you mentioned "porn" as that is what my friend refers to pictures of U2 gear as.:lol::lol:

Related note, I'd called Fender Custom shoppe to see if they did the refinishes for Adam.

They would neither confirm nor deny. And were quick to point out that it's not a service that they provide 'commercially'.

But there are other places one can get it done.

Oh man that's actually a brilliant idea! :hmm: I may have to do that. Or if I'm ever getting a Jazzy, I'll have a purple one.

I hope you can find info on that strap. :D Would be cool to have one myself!

y does it have to be a refin? maybe they custom made him one.

It is possible they are new. But more likely they are refinished `60's to `early `70's models, as those he likes best.

Per a conversation I had with Fender, they did the gold sparkle Jazz and Precision. That said, it makes it more likely that they did the purple sparkle too.

hmmmm i find that strange personally, most players perfer to keep vintage instruments stock.

While most of us would at least think twice before altering a vintage instrument, that is not so strange for Adam. After all, Adam has a long history of altering 'vintage' instruments.

He has altered his 1972/1973 Fender Precision over and over.
Early on, Adam swapped the Precision neck for a Jazz neck. Per Adam, Fender Jazz bass necks feel better to him and is more "ladylike". He also had the pickguard altered/cut and added the 'House of Pain' sticker at some point.

- Cut the pickguard, adding the House of Pain sticker.

During the Popmart era, a mirror pickguard was added.

-By the Vertigo promo-shows, a full black pickguard was affixed to his 1972/1973 Precision.

Dallas Schoo obtained two Fender Jazz bass guitars for Adam before the recording of HTDAAB.

One was a 1964 Sherwood Green Fender Jazz

...and the other was a 1965 Shoreling Gold Fender Jazz:

By the Vertigo tour, both had been shed of their mid-1960's rosewood fingerboard necks for Adam's preferred maple fingerboard.

That said... and back the the purple sparkle Precision...

(GALEON, YOU LISTENING?)...

I was out at Romano's last night watching The Joshua Tree (tribute band) play a fantastic show. And lo and behold what does JT's Adam (Scott) pull out... PURPLE SPARKLE PRECISION. Stunning, Stunning, STUNNING looking instrument. And sounds cool as heck too. Only difference between Adam's and Scott's is that Adam's has the rosewood fretboard which actually looks great with the purple.

I should have some pictures to share shortly.

 Did you ask the guy how he got it? What finish he got?

Scott's had this bass for a bit. He had it refinished in lilac/purple sparkle finish - just like Adam's. I think the total cost of the refinish was in the $350.00 range - not a horrible price at all - and the quality of the work is top notch.

He took some pics of me holding it. As soon as I get them, I will post them here.

^ I really think this is the way to go for those of us who want an Adam bass. Now that we know the Warwick signature is going to be almost US$ 10,000 (with tax), it's much cheaper to have a bass you already own refinished. While you're at it, upgrade the pick-ups and go ahead and get yourself an Aguilar amp and cab. You'll still come in cheaper than the Warwick. :D

Seriously, I'm really annoyed that Fender didn't offer Adam a signature bass. It would have been much closer to affordable for most of us, and Adam has been using P-basses much longer than he has Warwicks.

I think I posted this in another thread, but Galeon, if you want a purple sparkle p-bass (and I know you do ), I think your best bet is to try to find a local luthier who'll refinish the bass you already own.

Me holding Scott Joness (The Joshua Tree) lilac/purple sparkle bass. I can tell you, from seeing this glorious bass up close, the guy that refinished it did a great job. All around $350-ish, if memory serves.

But it ain't all about looks, it sounds great. This bass Scott had owned for a bit. It was white with an anodized gold pickguard. Looked cool and all and sounded great. But then he decided to 'Adam it up' with the refinishing. And WOW... Come on, you KNOW you want one!

Matching headstock... Only difference in Scott and Adam's is that Scott's has a rosewood fretboard. Whick looks good with the purple.

Here's a shot of Scott in action.

And Scott's Adam-Inspired shirt? He and his wife made that. Cool, right? He's even made pants with the frilly bits on them - like Adam's. Now that is dedication to detail. You gotta love that.

Wow! That is one awesome bass! I much more prefer the look of the maple fretboard but this looks incredibly nice still! Do you know if his is MIM or MIA?

I got Vintage Modified Squier P Bass for recording this christmas and it would be pretty sick to refin it in Purple or Gold sparklE. Might not do it for a while if I make the go. I can have pics up in a second. (Where's me bloody camera?)

Great pics! Awesome bass!

Maybe I'll get one, I'm just not sure what finish I'd like. The purple's really really awesome, but the sparkle gold has some spunk too! And yeah, my regular bass is blue, which is my fave colour, so I could always just sparklify that in Adam style. :D
