Larry drumming on GOYB - U2 Feedback

Larry drumming on GOYB

Can anyone see why Larry jumps up during the middle break in GOYB? I imagine its partly for effect, but what is he actually playing? Is he hitting the bass drum even? Or is he just on hihat and snare?

Regardless, it's pretty badass when he jumps up all of sudden like that.

I believe Larry jumps up and plays an electric drum kit which is on his left side of the drums.

Two possible reasons come to mind:

One, he can be seen singing backing vocals by standing. So yes, for effect, it's kind of cool.

Second, he's striking a Roland V-Drum pad that is quite possibly triggering the drum loop. So that is kind of cool too.

Yeah I figured it had something to do with a trigger. I just couldn't tell what he's doing live versus what is triggered...
