Well, I've gotten my first few listens into Invisible. Thought I'd make this thread so we can discuss Edge's playing in the new song!

Biggest kicker is that huge synth hook that comes in near the beginning. Definitely Edge on guitar, as you hear that part later on without as many effects in it, starts right at the "There is no them..." breakdown around 2:50.

The other lighter guitar parts sound a bit of Out of Control, and for some parts at least it sounds like he's using an 8th note delay? Don't know if it's me hearing things but there are definitely some sections where it sounds like a delay is filling in 8th notes as opposed to Edge.

Thoughts! I don't really have knowledge of actual pedals/effects units/etc. because I run all my stuff through Line 6 UX2 but I'll gladly participate in discussion!

Basic chords (first draft).

Verse
D# - G#
(then just before the chorus)
Fm - G#

Chorus (timing is in parenthesis)
Fm (8 beats) - G# (8 beats) - Gm (12 beats) - D# (4)
Fm (8) - G# (8) - Gm (8) - G# (8)

Bridge:
C - Fm - D# - A#

Outro/"there is no them"
D# - Fm

I didn't spend a ton of time on it but it's a starting point at least.

watch this! edge using his Explorer on the song

Yep! Saw that, knew the more subdued parts sounded especially 'Out of Control', I'm a happy explorer owner. :)

Think I have most of the song worked out as far as the main guitar part goes as opposed to the chords. Fairly simple overall but fun. Wish I knew how to write out tab.

Thanks for the chord writeup U2DMfan, I'll check that out later tonight.

When you figure the song out, could you record yourself playing it and share with us!!?

Yep! I actually am doing that right now, just need to re-do the end with the slide part. Should I sound cloud it? Do they get mad if I upload the song under the guitar cover?

Welp, here's my take on it! Recorded most of the audio in a single take, fixed up a few parts where the synth got all out of whack and then layered two parts on the end because I thought they were both important. I recorded the video separately from the audio so if there are some weird sync issues/I step over to change a preset at the wrong time, that's why!

U2 "Invisible" - Guitar Cover - YouTube

Let me know what you guys think and any suggestions you might have. I think it covers the basic lead part pretty well but there's always room for improvement!

I think you're missing a variation in the main riff (the slide part)

I can't tell you what because I can't name off notes like that, but listen again I guess?

Keep it coming tho I love it when you guys do this with Edge's stuff :)

It's close to this...Tabbed from acoustic version I saw on YT.

Bummer, looks like YouTube went after the Invisible audio in my cover video. Ah well, gonna keep it up. Close enough.

Thanks! I went back and listened with fresh ears for any note discrepancies in the main synth parts and can't find any...maybe point me to where in the song you hear them? As far as I can tell it follows the same pattern the whole way through, but I could be wrong.

what effects are you using ? super awesome sound
Yeah, thanks! It's a fun sound to play around with. I am using Pod Farm 2.5 by Line 6 and the synth effect comes from running Synth Lead, Screamer, and Boost/EQ through the Vox A-30 amp preset. I think it all sounds pretty good and is certainly a much cheaper option than buying all of the actual gear!

it sucks I'm terrible at songs by ear, sometimes i get it and sometimes i don't, I'm trying to play the song within the cords but it still does not sound right..I wish i could figure it out :(

I am using standard tuning and a capo on the first fret to make the chords easier to play

And..... I'm still working this out for acoustic guitar. After just listening to the song again:

Hm, really wish I could hear what you guys are hearing because for the synth part at least I think I have it. Maybe not in the chorus notes and what not for but those big slide sections, I don't know it all sounds right to me. Weird!

Are you all playing this in standard or dropped tuning?

For the lead part/synth I was using dropped half step.

Also that video posted above is awesome, good stuff!

Changed one chord and made it easier w/capo.
(there is no Gm, it's D#/G - or with capo - D/F#)
