While everybody goes apeshit for the Korg SDD-3000, the TC Electronic 2290 is Edge's real delay workhorse. Just as discontinued as the Korg TC Electronic seems to be going to re-release it as a stomp box. And from what I gather not even that expensive, cheaper then the Line 6 DL4.

I want one!

i think the key to the SDD-3000, and why Edge (and all of his followers) love it so much is because of how it changes the tone of the signal. i'm not sure anything else, not even the TC2290, can duplicate that tone.

What most agree is the key to the SDD3000 is the preamp. That's where you get the warm crunch without getting distorted on songs like Streets and Bad.

How can one get the benefits of a SDD3000 delay like The Edge's, without paying too much on the second hand market?

This guy at PsionicAudio is the goods! He's recreated the famous pre-amp section of the SDD3000.

Sure the SDD3K is a great delay but they are old, hard to find and many on the second hand market are VERY unreliable.

With the Triad by Psionic Audio... you get the fantastic tone benefits of the SDD3K, and it can be used with the delay of your choice.

It does have stereo delay. It even comes with a U2 preset so you can set one channel to the Edge's dotted 3rd and the other to a standard delay.

This weekend I walked into a big store in Rotterdam and there it was. €250 but I had to have it. I managed to bargain it down to €234. Not that much but still something for buying probably one the first units in the Netherlands. The only thing I regret is not having the time to jam until my fingers bleed once I got home.

I can attest to what Edge Orchestra has said about Lyle. He's one of those Einstein-like gurus of tone.

In addition to having the Triad, he did a complete custom overhaul and mods on my AC30 and is currently building myself and a few others a custom amp based on some of vintage Fender circuitry.

If you want the "Edge" sound you can get a Triad and a good mod delay (TC2290, TC D-2, even a Korg SDD2000) and you'd be in good shape.

I can verify that!! It was my sdd-3000 used as the experemental rat to create the Triad. Lyle has also modded several of my ac30s to JMI specs and he also knows Edgetone and what hes about so he can help get you to where you want to go in tone. On top of that hes a real nice honest guy

EDIT: so the psionicaudio thing is a preamp unit, corrrect (if I get it, need to know where it goes in the effects chain )

EDIT 2: and you still need things like phaser, distortion, etc right?

Yes it is a pre-amp but is also has an effects loop and a boost channel. It works best with a tube amp where it can push the front end of the amp. The overdrive you hear on the clips is the Triad making the amp sing. The Triad is not producing distortion itself, so yes, you still need other effects.

I use the Triad last in my chain to push the total signal going into my AC30. It sounds great and the boost is great for lead work.
