Just curious, if anybody knows, how many guitars does Edge own, and how many bass guitars does Adam have?

Also, anyone have pics of a whole bunch of Adam and Edge's guitars/bass guitars?

Hehe Edge could open his own guitar store I think, put it that way. ;)

Adam has at the least, a dozen.

Think that Vh1 show, Edge had 47? 37? a lot either way.

At the shows I believe Edge changed between 3 or 4 guitars.

Not as many as I expected.

During Elevation, he went through 8 or 10 different guitars each night (depending on the setlist).

i brought this topic up cos i was just wondering how many he would have because noel gallagher has 99.

In the Metallica Documentary, they had 600 between the 3 members.

I think Clapton once had upwards of 200 - before he sold off most of them.

I also know Kravitz and Ben Harper have very large collections - some musicians have crazy collections, but most of them sit on a shelf or on the wall.

I find that kinda weird. I have one guitar. I may eventually get a few more, but probably not more than 5. I'd rather love and enjoy a few guitars than have a bunch but never use more than a few of them.

For most people somewhere between one and three is all they need... I have three basses and two guitars at the moment, the guy who plays guitar in my band has about 12 I think... unfortunately it is fun to buy guitars...

How many guitars does the guy from Cheap Trick posess?

One weird thing I've heard about Edge is that he gets a new set of strings on each guitar before EVERY show. Some guitars get new string before AND after soundcheck.

I suppose that makes sense. I don't think he's really even broken a string in the middle of a song, has he?
The only problem with changing them that often is that new strings are often very slippery and difficult to bend.

Edge has broken strings on stage before. I went to the Anaehim 1 show, and Edge broke the high E string right at the beginning of Sunday Bloody Sunday; it only took a minute for Dallas to bust out a new guitar. i really didn't notice that Edge broke a string until i listened to the bootlegs, though.

and there was a show way back in the late 70's, i think, where Edge broke a string and he got really mad and they stopped the show right there.

The only time, including video, I've ever seen Edge break a string was UTEOTW Tacoma 2001.

Opening guitar strum of the concerts 3rd song. He was playing a new guitar by the time Bono singing the first line of the song. It was a "blink and you miss it" type moment.

But that doesn't answer the question about Edge breaking a string halfway thru a song...

I read an article in a guitar mag today, interviewing Edge and Dallas. Apparently he has upwards of 30 guitars on the road, all which are tuned for different variations etc. I remember this show a while back had him on and he was in NY at his favourite guitar store buying a few more. As for stringing, on the new DVD Dallas says he strings for around 9 hours or something.

I'm just shocked that Dallas still considers Edge the best guitar player in the world even after been his tuning/stringing slave for 9 hours a day.

There must be more. The Tele Edge uses for Sunday bloody sunday us tuned down one full step, thus a different one from the normal tuned Vertigo Tele. The Strat being used for I still haven't found is also tuned down a full step, thus not the same colored Strat used for BTBS. And I've seen his roadie use a blue gray Tele, the one he used for Discotheque. Which makes for a total of 17. Exactly the number I once heard being used.

Yeah. I think it's slavery too! Should Dallas deserve an assistant? D seems like a really nice, humble guy from the things he say and from what fans have to say about him.

So that settle it that Edge changes guitar strings everyday.

Also, the "Black and White Strat" for Pride is not the same as the Streets one, the Pride guitar is a full step down where as the Streets one is tuned normally.

Does Edge have a spare for every guitar?

I have seen him snap a string and he needs to switch a guitar immediately.

I also wonder if Dallas ever keeps the same guitar strings on for 2 shows in a row. Maybe spend his downtime selling guitar picks on ebay.

I don't think Edge has "duplicate" guitars, so to speak, but I'm sure he has alternates should something go wrong. The exceptions, I would imagine, are the two Variax (did I get the name right? The Love and Peace/The Fly guitars) acoustics, and the cream Les Paul. I'm almost positive I've heard of him breaking a string on the LP and Dallas having to give him the gold-top as a replacement.
