A Mexican made Standard Strat should go for around 350 I believe. If you are looking for one that will last you for quite a few years go w/ something a bit better than the squier strat.

umm sure, i think there are some reviews here too:

^^ My bad, they raised the price to 370 since last year. You also might wanna check out:

Which is pretty much the same except you get a humbucker on your bridge. So more of a deal for the same price. Remember, you always wanna try out what you get before you buy it. Good luck. Hope this helps you!

Yes, and it's the 2 links I just posted above that. Make sure it's a Mexican and not Japanese.

Sorry, not following this... the only reason to buy a Mexi Fender over a Japanese Fender is price. The Japanese models are better IMO, I would compare them with the US models in terms of playability and build quality, and they're far more consistent than the Mexi models which are very variable in my experience. There is a reason why the japanese models are priced as they are... Nothing particularly wrong with the Mexi Fenders of course, but if you've got the option I'd certainly not exclude the Japanese ones.

Thanks to all for the info.

now I must save a little more for the amp, any suggestion is welcome.

If your're going for the Edge sound you might want to look for a Vox Valvetronix amp, or you could get a multieffect thingy with amp models such as the Line6 Pod or Behringer V-amp2.
