General bass tab question...

I am a total n00b...
Could someone please tell me what the 'h' and 'p' means in tab? I've seen it in other tabs and I have no idea what it signifies.

h = hammer

but you can play without the p and h, and it's the same

Okay, next question is, how do you "pull off" and "hammer"?

Fair enough, I can probably figure it out from the words, but my bass lessons didn't get into that sort of detail before I ran out of money.

Hammer = When it says 11h12 it means: Pick the string when you have your finger on the 11th fret and then move to the 12th fret without picking the string again.

hammer on:
11h12
put your finger on 11th fret,play the note and then just "hammer on" with another finger on 12th fret without playing with your right hand

pull off:
12p11
put your fingers on both 12th and 11th fret and then,after playing 12th fret note just remove,or "pull off" your 12th fret finger without playing the 11th fret note with your right hand
