A "hammer" is when you pluck one note, then instead of plucking the next note, you just press down on the fret real hard with your finger. You do hammers on the same string, so that the string is still ringing when you press down on the new fret.

A pull off is just the opposite. Your playing a note, say an E on the A string, (7th fret) and you have your finger on the 5th fret also. You pull your finger off the 7th fret and let the D on the 5th fret ring out. To make the pull off louder, you sometimes want to bend the string a little, then release, as if you were plucking the string.

I hop you got that, they're kind of hard to explain. And hard to do, until you get the hang of it.

thanks - i have been wondering for ages what all these "7p5"s on my tab were!
