Found on Led Zeppelin's How The West Was Won, the live version of Black Dog features a great preamble riff... torn from the full performance of Out On The Tiles; a riff which Tom Morello labelled as the best rock blues lick ever.
Here's an easy way to make your black dog happy:
e-------------------------------- |---------------------------------------
b-------------------------------- |---------------------------------------
g-------------------------------- |---------------------------------------
d---5--5--5--5--5--5--5--5- |--4--4--4--4--4--4--4--4-----------
A---------------------------------|----------------------------------------
E---3--3--3--3--3--3--3--3--|--2--2--2--2--2--2--2--2-----------
e----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
b----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
g---2-------------------2--------------2-------------------2--------------- |
d---2-------------------2--------------2-------------------2----------------|
A---0-------------------0--------------0-------------------0----------------|
E---------3^5~~~------3^5~~~---------3^5~~~-------------3^5~~~-|
If you're lazy, you can substitute the upper chords with just the plucking of the E string 5th fret, followed by the E string 4th fret. Then continue on with the A variant and vibratto.
The 3^5~~~ bend/vibratto works well if you sustain it through the whole riff.
Hope it is useful to someone.
*PS, don't mistake those full 8 time denotations as 1's. It really sucks if you play it that way.
