Is it possible to
a) develop or improve the ability to sing in tune or is it either you can or you can't do it and
b) to extend your range, ie Bono's falsetto in the 90's compared to earlier years.

A) Yes you can improve but you need to practice. The problem with singing is anyone can do it. It is not like a guitar where you cannot just pick it up one day and sort of play. You have to take lesson and practice. We all sing along with CD's or the radio. But if you want to get better, you need to treat your voice like any other instrument you'd like to play.

b) You can work to expand your range, however, your range will decrease with age. That is the reason why U2 have dropped the key thay play some songs in now. A song like Sunday Bloody Sunday is several 1/2 steps below the original key.

You can extrand your range by practicing scales. It all goes back to the 1st point of treating your voice like an other instrument. You have to practice to get the most out of it.

Best of luck to you

I disagree with some of the things you said

Bono's voice changed yes.

His technique has got alot better. He used to not really look after his voice and "Belt out" songs all the time which is not good. As U2 have progressed he started to use his fallesetto, not singing full voice.

With regards to his range it has got alot better and Opera singers have always regarded singing to be much stronger from mid 30's onwards.

Look at hands that built America etc and his range has improved & well as being much smoother.

Live key change will be due to practicall reasons. He sings for over 2 hours a night whilst on tour.

This aids him nocking the key down a tone etc and makes it easier.
