Why so many "ooohhhs" on this album?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Anyone notice that? I love the album, but does Bono have to put some variation of 'oohhhooohhhhooo' of every other bloody song? It kind of grates if you listen to the whole album together.

Just curious if it annoyed anyone else?

Not at all tbh, i can understand your point, but it adds alot to the album, and makes you sing along, so a good move by the band.

you know, i read a couple of reviews that complained about it, so i guess i expected to be annoyed by this too. but after so many listens, i think they work fine with the album.

Cause ooohhhoooohhh means "I'll kneel for the love of your soul" in an old Irish dialect.

I dunno if it annoys me, there does seem to be a lot though. Joshua Tree also had a lot of em, and so did AB. :hmm:

I do think on the next album they should stay away from it though.

Is this the first U2 album you have ever heard?

Bono's been 'oohhhooohhhhooo'-ing for most of his singing career... I didn't notice a drastic increase this time around...

I've heard practically every song. But if you don't hear the increase in this album (there's huge increase from Bomb alone), I don't know what to say. Guess your not as sensitive to it as I am.

Not only do they not annoy me but I absolutely love them all. Sometimes you don't need words to express a feeling.

In a Little While:

Oh my, my how you've grown
Well it's been, it's been...a little while

ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

Slow down my beating heart
A man dreams one day to fly

Bad:

See you break, break away
Into the light and to the day

Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh

To let it go and so to fade away
To let it go and so fade away

COBL:

And I miss you when you're not around
I'm getting ready to leave the ground...

Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh

Oh you look so beautiful tonight
In the city of blinding lights

Vertigo:

Swinging to the music
Swinging to the music
Oh oh oh oh

Hello hello
I'm at a place called Vertigo

Windows:

Oh can't you see what our love has done?
What it's doing to me?

Ooh ooh oh oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Ooh ooh oh oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Please don't ever let me out of here...
I've got no shame, oh no, oh no

Another Day:

Stop, shake out
They came my way
Oh oh ooh...
Boy, salute in a street uniform
Toy, soldier ripped and torn
Oh oh ooh

Sweetest Thing:

My Love She Throws Me Like A Rubber Ball
Oh Oh Oh, The Sweetest Thing

With Or Without You:

With or without you, with or without you, o-oh
I can't live with or without you
O-o-o-oh, o-o-o-o-oh
O-o-o-oh, o-oh
With or without you, with or without you, o-oh

Wild Honey:

Wild, wild
ooo, ooo

Running to Stand Still:

Ah-la-la-la-de-day
Ah-la-la-la-de-day
Ah-la-la-de-day

Oooooooooooo, Ooo Ooo Ooo Oooooo
Oooooooooooo, Ooo Ooo Ooo Oooooo

Etc, etc...

That is one of my favorite things on the album. The first time I heard the title track I was going: what's up Bono? Are you having a fit? But after a few listening sessions all I can say is: wow. Totally awesome.

So are you agreeing with me or not? That's 4 off of Bomb and ATYCLB vs. 6 off of NLOTH I can think of off the top of my head (NLOTH, Magnificent, Unknown Caller, Stand Up Comedy, FEZ-Being Born, White Snow)

So I guess that proves my point. Thanks much!

Yeah I have to agree that this is the "ooohhhhhhh ohhhhhhhh" album but I couldn't give a crap when the musics as good as it is.:D

I thought it was kind of funny while listening to the album the first time, but I think "Oooooh's" are kind of like hand claps. You can't have enough of them.

I agree with those who mentioned the chanting thing. The band was influenced by international music here, and it's more than Bono's typical high-pitched "ooooohs", and more group singing "Whooooaaaaa" stuff. Glad to see so much of it.

The only place I think it's out of place is on Stand Up Comedy, where the whole bridge it's on doesn't really fit with the rest of the song. I do like the Beatlesque chorus following it, though.
