Why did Bono lie about this being a long album?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Nothing wrong with a long album if it's consistent

Although the only 70+ album that comes to mind as being completely consistent is Disintegration

Actually, the original album was probably around 60-some minutes and they added in "Last Dance" and the excellent "Homesick" on the CD, but your point holds that it's still great.

Maybe Bono meant long in terms of Cylon time. Seriously dude, if you think 53 minutes isn't a long album, you should listen to more music.
If you really think 53 minutes is "very long", YOU need to listen to more U2 albums.

He said long, not very long, there's a difference.

53 minutes is long enough imo. It doesn't matter how long the goddamn songs are anyway, it's about the songs themselves.

Stop starting threads based on information that is very old and has been discussed over and over. Seriously.

And how many albums are longer? Rattle and Hum doesn't really count and Pop and AB are both pretty close. I'd say this lands on the "very long" end of the U2 spectrum.

Just because its coming from David Letterman, its still a personal attack.

Jesus Christ, we really need this album to leak...but...

...I really, really fear for this place when it does, the mods are going to be in for a hell of a time.... :|

I've always wondered, since I joined, how things went here when HTDAAB got leaked...

It was fine. Most people were too excited at the time for there to be too much bitching and moaning and it seemed the bitching there was, was just ignored.

I think this time will be similar. There will be too much excitement to worry about people moaning.

Now a few days or weeks after the leak will be a different story.

Thanks...

But what about the forum itself? Everything became a mess? Chaos?

I remember it as being quite a mess. I never bothered to register back then because I was just reading posts here, and I sorta read most of the archives before I finally registered.

I'm sure all hell will break loose when it leaks tho. Chaos and happiness all around!

I was just doing some old research. It seemed like the songs leaked separately at different times. But I have to say that things were a lot more calm back then than they are now, and I dont think the tone was as negative as it is now.

Here's a few I found.

http://www.u2interference.com/forums/f288/its-here-101391.html

http://www.u2interference.com/forum...d-full-album-e-mail-requests-here-101447.html

http://www.u2interference.com/forums/f288/merged-htdaab-tracks-only-here-please-101411.html

http://www.u2interference.com/forums/f288/merged-high-quality-htdaab-files-101565.html

And I'm pretty sure that's when we got in trouble by Universal for posting links.

Honestly, I've been here for the last two albums and what I usually do is avoid the site for literally two weeks. That way I don't get to partake in the worthless and nonsensical ramblings and fights that occur during the honeymoon phase of the album listening.

Its not till after a few weeks or even months that the shock and awe of hearing new U2 music wears off that we finally get discussions that are genuine and worthwild.

But thats just me.

:lmao: Oh wow that's great!

Hillarious to see so many users who now really hate Bomb be so excited about it!

Wow... thanks Sicy.
I guess I'll have something to do with the free time of this afternoon.
I remember I couldn't stop laugh when I read the thread when Vertigo got leaked

Yeah, I'm thinking about doing that. Maybe don't come back until the next album is being released.

Both ATYCLB and HTDAAB had similar reactions when the albums leaked.

You had everyone creating posts stating "OMG NEW YORK IS AWESOME" *which it is a good song IMO*, or "I LITERALLY CRIED WHEN I HEARD COBL!!!!!THANK YOU U2!!!!"

You would then see in the next few days a few negative posts stating they thought it was bland, and then a week or so later those same people who cried and yelled how great the music was, turned and said what a shit piece of music. Then it was everything the band did that was shit.

It will happen again. People will say, I forgive you U2, then later on turn again and say, "Bono lied, he said the tour would be like ZooTV" or something lame.

It might be best to just avoid the forums all together for a few weeks and let the music soak in. Form your OWN opinion on it, rather than let others influence how you feel.

True, I just hope we can keep the threads coherent. What normally happens is that ppl set up separate threads for individual songs, eg:

"Wow NLOTH (Song) is the best thing they have ever done!!!!1!!!"

or

Wow NLOTH (Song) sucks!!!1!!!

However, with good moderation things can be kept logical and orderly. But the first few days are usually crazy.

My pet hate is "discussion" threads getting filled with begging email requests by ppl with 1 post... But then i probably need to get a life! :reject:

My god some of the comments from those threads are funny, people who bitch about the album now, claiming that it was the best album since AB lol

i wish i still had the links for what varitek posted last night about typical thread titles around the time of an album release. they were hilarious and alarmingly accurate.

I think you guys are missing the point; Bono lied!

He looked us all individually in the face and said "I Bono swear on all things holy that this album will be long - really long like over 75 minutes - Trust me, I'm Bono."

And we were all "I dunno Bono, I mean, you tend to make shit up all the time..."

And He was all "No. Dude. Trust me on this!"

And we were all "Well ok then, if you promise"

And then the lying son of a bitch went and lied to us. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW PISSED OFF I AM RIGHT NOW!!!

OMG!!!!!11111!!!

It would be great if say, the whole forum would go down the first week after teh album leaked.

Imagine that. People would actually have the time to listen to the album and to listen a lot of times without getting hyper on the forums. They'd have time to chill out and get a more unbiased opinion on the songs because the initial OMFGYEAYEAYEAWOWOOWWW reaction would be gone.
It'd be heaven on Interference.
