The Edge to be on 102.1 the Edge / Alan Cross Reviews 'Get On Your Boots'

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

The review sounds promising ... obviously a real departure, something the guy didn't expect, makes me excited!

And I think "Porn" will be my favourite song on the new album.

Born (Again) aka Mercy?

Maybe it's renamed "Tripoli" since Winter is on that soundtrack. Or one of the two "unnamed songs" in that Q article...

Four songs over 5 mins, but oddly no Winter or Tripoli.

This is NOT a back-to-basics guitar/bass/drums track like “Vertigo” or even “Beautiful Day.” There’s some definite sonic evolution going on here.

Like so many U2 songs—especially ones produced by an Eno/Lanois/Lilywhite nexus—it’s filled with far more subtleties and complexities that anyone can hear with one listen. I need to examine it, ponder upon it and otherwise live with it.

But that’s the cool thing about U2. There’s just so much THERE there that it can take a while to sort through it all. Suffice it to say, however, that if you’re a U2 fan, you’ll be pleased.

If the song isn’t on the radio by the end of this week, I’ll be shocked. I first heard bits of “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” from a broadcast on a Croatian radio station. There was a leak at the record pressing plant and somehow this dude got himself a big scoop.

These 4 little paragraphs from Mr Alan Cross have made me so frickin' happy I need to excuse myself so I can go do my little happy dance :hyper: :applaud:

see ya

I'd agree with Vertigo. BD is a "U2 does pop" song. Outside of that "touch me..." Edge riff it doesn't sound like anything U2's done before.

I can't believe that I went to bed last night and all the new info came out! Maybe I should carry on sleeping all day and we'll get a single...

Vertigo probably only shared stylistic ground with Elevation.
Fast distorted power chords.

Beautiful Day, I could probably list at least a dozen.
What made it unique at all, really?
It was a mid tempo rocker, U2 101.
It's a cool song though, this is not an insult.
But it was pretty basic.

We don't know when this was recorded (sometime in Dec obviously) but they could have added Tripoli into the mix afterwards.

Actually, in the RS article it says that Stand Up (Comedy) will have new lyrics tomorrow and on the white board in the new video it's checked (off) as finished. So the video most likely was taken after RS was in the studio.

Alan Cross' review just makes me want to hear GOYB sooner rather than later.

Boring!! Reviews and again reviews...it's time to get on your boots on air!
They should speak less and do more action. We'll get the album in less than 2 months and we still have not info about the first single. When on air? Release date?

I understand you're excited but we didn't get anything real from u2 at the moment

YouTube - Elvis Costello - Pump It Up...NOW WITH LYRICS!

There’s a portion of the melody that somehow reminds me of the cadence of the verses in Elvis Costello’s “Pump It Up,” but as I write this, I’m not completely sure. Still, part of the song reminded me of…something else.

i'm agree with alan
the cadence of clip3 in the verses ..maybe is a little bit faster...

what do you think?

What do you expect at this point? There is a lot of info coming at the moment. We have a confirmed first single, we have a radio release date, Brit Awards performance confirmed, clips, interviews.

The new single will leak in a couple of days anyway.

Confirmed first single: Get On Your Boots (various inofficial sources including the BBC)
Radio Release date: 19th of january 2009 according to inofficial sources and Adam himself (I think?) that told an Italian fan about the upcoming tour as well in Dublin.

just read the Alan Cross review, and I'm very pumped. the fact that he didn't love it right away is probably the best news i could hear.

I like that he doesn't think of it like Vertigo. I don't need another Vertigo a bunch of wankers at a concert are singing along too thinking it's U2's best song.

It IS U2's best song everrrrrr

Even U2 seemed to think so! They played the song at least 5 times every night...Unos ,Dos, Tres, Cuatro, Cinco!!!!
