I'm trying to download what I hope is a 320 version from Fullalbums direct download - (not sure if I'm allowed to link to this site! Please remove if necessary).

There's a rumour going around that the original 256 file that most people have as actually a Transcode - ie an inferior re-encoding of an already compressed track. This would be bizarre as it was a legitimate download from getmusic.com but apparently those in the know who analyze these thing have come to that conclusion - just getting this from the discussion of the album over at atease, the Radiohead forum.

I have to say, the V0 version (variable bitrate) i found linked to on the atease forum DOES actually sound considerably better, particularly on headphones.

whats the VO? I just finished torrenting the 320 and it's marginally better, imo. The 256 was a bit muddy at high volumes.

Heres an analysis of the quality:

V0 is slightly worse than 320 but probably not enough for someone to notice!
