As previously reported, U2, Eno and Lanois have spent time working on new material on three prior occasions in France and Morocco, and Lanois confirms the results are prolific.

"The sleeves are rolled up. Bono is all charged up with a lyrical angle."

"There's so much material," he says, referring to speculation that the sessions could yield two new albums. "When you get Eno and I and those guys in the room, before lunch there's like eight things."

"We've had some exciting beginnings via jam sessions," he continues. "Now we will pick our favorite beginnings and say, 'OK, that's a lovely springboard. Now what are we trying to say?' The springboards are sometimes melodic, sometimes riff-based, but I can assure you they are exciting."

I thought he was saying that they've already had the "beginnings."

I think there are probably a few 'complete' songs, but there are probably more riffs and ideas than complete songs. They'll be working the songs to more complete ideas from now until the beginning of July...

I mean that's how they've done it in the past.

i'm just hoping for soaring, powerful, beautiful vocals from mr. bonso on next album:drool:

Great quotes, but it makes me long for the old days of rock n' roll, when bands could only afford a few days of studio time to record an album. It was simply, write your songs, rehearse them in the garage, and then - boom! -- into the studio for recording. Then, album.

Here's another Bonoism/article...:D

Bono has insisted that the new U2 album will be "radical and uncompromising" .

The singer claimed he couldn't give any details away but argued that it wouldn't be worth the band's time producing a record that was anything less than "great".

Speaking at the European premiere of U2 3D, he said: "Who needs another U2 album unless it's a really great piece of rock 'n' roll? You young people better watch out!

"We have to do something really extraordinary to be able to get out of bed these days."
He added: "If I told you [about the album] I'd have to kill you. And if I did tell you they'd probably have to kill me too."

Producer Daniel Lanois revealed earlier this week that the Irish rockers had begun work on the follow-up to 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.
