Yes, a semitone or two lower in key would would have done wonders for the vocal

I’m a little surprised there’s been no update/additional detail on this. Original story 3 days ago, small update 48 hours ago. They certainly claim they have multiple sources saying the band is working on plural “songs”. Would assume they have names, info on whether it’s an album, one off single, EP. Even if the band haven’t pressed “go”, there’s be enough people who know the intent to be able to give something else up?

Im am guessing they’ve shared everything they know or can. Say too much and suddenly people stop telling you stuff

Or they're just speculating much like the rest of us

Yeah I get that, but going quiet is out of character - usually they’d find a way to post something that keeps interest.

I don’t buy speculation on this - there was no real smoke or fire around this until they posted, and then the Lillywhite video was posted the next day (granted it’s not confirmation of anything).

Well .. from the whole Sphere and SOS episode it became clear that either U2Songs, and a few other normally reliable sources, either had some really bad Intel, or that the band's management was floating misdirection out there for some strange reason. Or a combination of both.

So who knows what's going on .

I really think that was more a case of them reporting stuff that was known at a point in time before the band changed their plans significantly.

If its going to happen, I guess it might coincide with their promotional interviews for the UV shows which I'm assuming will start before the first shows?

It’s be weird to play it and have people in the audience have no idea what it sounds like.

I remember in one of the recent interviews with Bono, he kind of walked back the talk of a whole album of AC/DC style music, and said something like "even just one single or song with that sound would be good".

Along with him saying "well we'd need to have the new music before the sphere shows wouldn't we?", I wonder if this single will be their first attempt at this "fuck off rock and roll" sound, before they decide whether to commit to an album in that style.

Remember how they retreated after Invisible wasn’t a huge hit (despite the amount of downloads it had in a short period)? Hopefully this time they won’t care. But, perhaps more hopefully, the song is good. Invisible was.

Did Bono not fall of his bike soon after? Probably scuppered their plans.

Falling off his bike didn’t make them cut it from the album.

Bono smashed his face into the Central Park pavement after the Songs of Innocence release.

It was the weekend before they were due to be on Fallon for a week.

They started hedging on Invisible to push Ordinary Love after it was nominated for an Oscar.

Failing to push Invisible was dumb.

New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

Invisible is a vastly superior song to Miracle.

One is sleek and modern and sounds like a high speed train with an undercurrent of longing and feels like the beginning of a clear new sonic direction and the other ties to be a stomping inspo anthem for Every Youth Round the World as well as football stadiums across Europe, and winds up sounding like “hello fellow kids, wait ‘till you hear this!”

And I don’t think Miracle is all that bad.

It’s also one of the best tracks on SOS.

I’ll be pleased with any new song if Bono isn’t so damn loud in the mix.

There’s been a huge shift since the end of No Line to make him so prominent in the mix.

Tho it could be Edge hasn’t found a catchy riff in decades

Agreed. Though SOI was actually mixed pretty well overall.

Since Bono and Edge crave relevancy and Vegas having the long time stigma of being a haven for heritage acts, the idea of having a new single tied to this makes a lot of sense.

It can act as the intro to the show as a music video to show off the stadiums screen/video capabilities.
