U2's "The Edge" changes name to "Bono"

A spokeman for world topping band U2, has confirmed that the band's lead guitarist "The Edge" (real name David Howell Evans) has today finalised the legal documentation to change his name to "Bono".

The lead signer of the band, "Bono" (real name Paul David Hewson), is said to be dazed and confused that he is no longer "Bono from U2", now simply being "one of the Bonos from U2".

The motivation for the change is not known however lawyers are already trying to identify if this gives new Bono any rights to old Bono's money or awards.

It is believed that the Vatican, who have recognised Bono for a number of humanitarian achievements, are in the process today of recognising new Bono with the same awards.

Both Larry Mullen Jr and Adam Clayton have refused to comment today on speculation that they too are planning to become Bono.

-New U2 album "No Line on the Horizon" confirms Bono's majesty-

February 05, 2009

ALL the talk of U2's first album in more than four years has been of new direction and bold innovation. That's partly true.

Certainly Get Your Boots On, the current single, pushes new buttons, for them at least, with the Edge's heavy metal guitar riff and Bono's semi-rap leaving it sitting oddly, but rewardingly, somewhere between Red Hot Chili Peppers and Elvis Costello.

Elsewhere, however, the bombast, the clever use of dynamics and the rhythm section's funk-fused rock groove are strikingly familiar.

The title track is perhaps the best example of these elements' collective power, with Bono milking a huge anthemic chorus. It has stadium written all over it.

Produced by seasoned U2 campaigners Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, with additional contributions from Steve Lilywhite, No Line On the Horizon sounds epic.

On Moment of Surrender and Unknown Caller church organ underpins a more soulful approach, although the latter song fails to deliver on its early promise.

A couple of others are U2 by numbers, such as FEZ - Being Born (that's one song) and Breathe. That track contains all of the album's recurring themes - love, hope, seizing the day, celebrating life.

Both White as Snow and Cedars of Lebanon adopt a more sombre tone, with the former providing an acoustic contrast to the electrical storms on either side.

As to what you'll be hearing constantly on the radio for the next six months or so, the slightly funky Stand Up Comedy, the Edge-heavy I’ll Go Crazy if I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight and the vaguely Where the Streets Have No Name-sounding Magnificent are prime contenders.

The most striking development on this follow-up to How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb is Bono's voice. Always commanding, even when being melodramatic, Bono pushes, kicks and screams himself into territory more soulful, more emotional and more rock god-like than he has been to before. Imagine how that's going to sound in a stadium.

U2 gig rumours 'inflate hotel prices'
Wednesday, February 4 2009, 9:28pm EST

By Mayer Nissim

mours of U2 stadium dates have resulted in rising prices for hotel rooms in Dublin, it has emerged.

According to a report in The Independent, the Jurys Hotel near Croke Park has tripled its prices for July 24, 25 and 26 to €299 (£269).

Those are the dates the Irish rockers are thought to have provisionally booked as part of a stadium tour of Europe.

The hotel's general manager Edward Stephenson said that the reason for the price rises is the "high occupancy" on those dates.

"We have very little availability left so that would be the normal situation in a hotel that we would sell off rooms for a cheaper price first," he told the newspaper.

"A number of people have got very competitive rates for these dates."

U2 release new single 'Get On Your Boots' on February 15

Great picture. I've not seen that one before. Where did it come from? Book? Magazine? A shot you took at a show?

Judging from the guitar and the era, very likely the photo was taken during "A Day Without Me".

Thanks again for posting this. Always great to see pictures from various eras and more so, pictures that I've not previously seen.

U2 @ the studio in Dublin yesterday. Thanks to this fan for the pics :)

*Bono, Adam, Larry and The Edge was in HQ for a couple of weeks because they have to have their new song "BOOTS" ready for Grammy and other live performance (BRITS, ECHO), now they are not gonna be in the studio. For last two days there was a lot of people there, even Anton Corbin, the principle management also. Yesterday some people from NME ( photographers ) took some pictures of the band - U2 will be on the cover of this magazine soon. Tour will start for sure in Barcelona, Europe tour can be splited for two legs ( leg 2 in Europe can be in 2010 ), for sure in september U2 gonna play in USA.
