Larry the Movie Star?????

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
:hmm:

The producers must know that a lot of U2 fans will be put off by Larry with that awful goaty.I mean he`s hardly looking his best.

The big question is how often does he take his shirt off and are there any female parts that he has involvement with...........now that would gain lots of attention

And your comment is based exactly on what?

Honestly, I don't care, but I have a feeling that Larry's acting carreer won't really take off.

Maybe the person that said positive things about Larry's acting/comedy were based on the various video bits Larry has done over time, including his 'bit' on the David Letterman show?

Larry may or may not want to be an actor. He might have been doing as he's friends with some that are involved. Or it seemed like a fun thing to do.

I acted in a short film last year. I did so as I knew the writer/director. I never fancied myself and actor. Turned out it was fun. So if I were asked again, I would probably do it. Larry might have ended up in a similar situation. He was asked. He had fun. Maybe he will and maybe he won't take an acting role.

I do feel that the "I don't care, but I have a feeling that Larry's acting carreer won't really take off" comment seems unnecessarily negative.

Not to be argumentative, but what are you basing that on? The only thing I've really seen him 'act' in was that comic relief sketch and maybe a Letterman/Late Night sketch or two.

:hmm: How about when Babyface Mullen plays that mean violin... now there's some awesome acting from the whole band. :sexywink:

The Babyface Mullen thing was an example of his comedy acting. The Comic Relief sketch and the Letterman sketches as well.

But he also did the very funny "Grand Madness" and the non-performance music videos that they have done show his ability for dramatic ("Stay") as well as comic ("Elevation") acting.

His natural wit displayed in the various interviews given throughout the past 20+ years also support my hypothesis that as a comic actor, he'd have a good shot if he could get over his shyness / insecurity.

His work on the Happy Birthday Oscar Wilde video shows a propensity for the dramatic read and the AIDS video and the motorcycle PSA (voice acting) show that he has an aptitude for it.

People that think his acting won't be so hot based on "Electrical Storm" should consider that he is a shy man in a committed relationship with the girlfriend he has had since he was 13 and had to do love scenes with a scantily-clad woman in front of loads of cameras and crew AND his best mates. I think he did exceptionally well under the circumstances.

Everyone who is putting this movie down already because he has a goatee maybe needs to reexamine they reason that they call themselves "Larry fans." If you are only interested in seeing him shirtless, there are already videos out there like that that you can watch.

I, for one, look forward to seeing him flex his ACTING muscles. If that makes me unpopular or a flame target, fire away.

I don't think it was unnecesarily negative. Negative? yes. Unnecessary? Well, nothing we say on here is necessary. I do think that it should be okay to express a negative opinion in PLEBA.

And Pam, about his looks, I wonder if they specifically scruffed him up a bit so he wouldn't be so 'pretty boy' like "we want him to be judged on his merits, not by a bunch of fangirls coming to see his chisled jawline". They have to know that he's known for his looks.

 100%
ur totally right, abelives!:applaud:
c'mon girls!
ok larry is beautiful, ok he changed his look maybe for the movie, maybe he'll keep it on the 360 but who cares?

i kinda love his goatee! :)
and acting is very very difficult.
I have no doubt about his acting and music skills. if it work it works, if it doesn't, well, he'll mange!

:applaud: Yep I agree. I think it was a deliberate thing to make him look less like the LMJ that we know. However, they don`t know us that well do they.......we can see through any disguise

Even if we don`t like it :reject:

Please Larry trim the beard before the tour. I love the scruff :hyper: just not the beard  :therethere:

Haven't seen Grand Madness - maybe I'll look that up. I'm not sure that I'd call the 'Elevation' video acting - I guess that's a difference of opinion.

His natural wit displayed in the various interviews given throughout the past 20+ years also support my hypothesis that as a comic actor, he'd have a good shot if he could get over his shyness / insecurity.

I'm glad you used the word hypothesis - I think we can all agree that none of us has seen enough of his acting to make a sound judgement.

His work on the Happy Birthday Oscar Wilde video shows a propensity for the dramatic read and the AIDS video and the motorcycle PSA (voice acting) show that he has an aptitude for it.

ooh - I'd forgotten these. I think the AIDS thing, while a very cool thing to do, is a little over acted, but that's just the director in me speaking.[/quote]

I make no bones about being a Larry faingirl becuase he's possibly the hottest sample of the male species I've ever seen. I don't pretend to know enough about drums to judge his drumming ablilty, nor do I presume to know enough about him as a person, beyond the little bits and pieces we can assume from interviews. He's gorgeous and sexy and I love seeing him with his shirt off. I don't need to see him act or read poetry (although that's nice) or be a humanitarian (although that's nice too). Are you assuming that, because I like to see him shirtless, I should just watch porn? I can't see how drooling over a shirtless pic of a rockstar equate to watching porn so I can only assume that the videos to which you refer is Electrical Storm - and believe me, you don't have to remind me that it's out there.

Finally, I don't think anyone was flaming you - I was honestly curious about what you're basing your opinion of his acting ability on - and you brought up some examples that I had forgotten about or hadn't seen. It's a discussion about a rock star; it doesn't have to be personal.

good point - I don't think he'll go home crying in his beer because he wasn't nominated for any awards. (assuming he doesn't get nominated - LOL)

Anything that has a director and producer that isn't straight performance calls for a degree of acting. Even if it is "acting" like you are a drummer in a rock band.

I'm glad you used the word hypothesis - I think we can all agree that none of us has seen enough of his acting to make a sound judgement.

Regardless, many in here have already condemned his acting career.

I took his over-seriousness as nerves. It had to be a difficult thing for him to do, knowing as we do his reluctance for the spotlight.

I don't know how you jumped to porn from anything that I said. In his career, Larry has made a number of videos that are regularly available in which he appears without a shirt. "Electrical Storm", "WGTRYWH" and most of the ZooTour. If that is what you (plural) are looking for now, there's plenty of it to be had if he refuses to doll up for this film.

I just find it a little annoying that I am asked to explain "exactly" on what I base my opinion that he will be good when no one is asking to explain why "he has a goatee" or "he looks scruffy" is reason enough to declare that his career will not take off.

Well I for one was serious when I used the Godfather bit as an example, though more for the group than Larry individually, true. I think it's hilarious, and being funny takes talent.

My opinion of his acting has nothing to do with his goatee. And I don't know why you're so offended that I asked you to justify your opinion of his acting skills. Clearly, an objective (or rather "subjective" since they're all opinions) discussion of Larry's talent is bothering you so I'll just drop it.

Oh, and I'm glad you weren't talking about porn - I guess I jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Lets just watch the movie and then judge his acting skills.
This is obviously a different kind of acting than in music video's or comedy sketches.
And he didn't do anything like this before. So lets just enjoy the movie when its out ,
and only then you can base a popper comment on his acting "skills".

Christ! I've missed a lot!

I agree and agree. I love the facial hair. My favorite Larry pics are the zoo/pop era. Facial hair is rugged

as for the acting, I liked that one commercial where he tells Bono off for giving too much money away. Looking forward to seeing the end result

^ How DARE you!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

I dare, because I don't feel the need to say that everything they do is brilliant. Don't even ask me what my least favorite album is. :D

Nonetheless, I still look forward to seeing this, and will probably buy it on DVD, and will shelve it along with Dead Alive, Krull, and National Treasure 2. /Guilty pleasure movies
