He is going to mix the album in NYC? As far as I know he has a studio in Canada and LA...
It's weird anyway -First they say that album is still not that perfect and they must work on it...Now the mixing is starting...-So it looks like album is definitely finishes- since, as far as I know, the mixing is very last step before publishing the album...
Are the band members presnet by mixing an album..?

Lanois does have places in LA and Canada.

But U2 band members do have apartments in NY. I know Bono does. I heard Edge and Larry do too. Maybe it was the better place to do it while Bono was still in the U.S. with charity duties?

Maybe the change of venue is that NY works better for Lanois' schedule.
