Lanois said in June that they were close to finishing it, just a couple of tracks needed vocals at that stage. I honestly have no clue what happened because as far as I could tell we were right on schedule or perhaps a little bit behind but still. 50-60 great songs and counting....?

The album was certainly not delayed because Bono likes a party.

I love it how people tend to always blame Bono.

I think he was the one who wanted the album out in November, but there are three other guys in this band, too, and the delay could have to do with each and every one of them, of simply with a disagreement between band members.

Bono certainly doesn't look too depressed about it and neither does Edge, seeing the photos from Toronto.
