Question about 'The Fly' on Elevation DVD Boston

Bono sings some lyrics to a song I do not recognize as the intro to 'The Fly' on the Elevation DVD. Could someone please tell me what song this is? Thank you for your help.

I don't know, but it's so beautiful that it actually made me cry.

Love
Love
You walk out into the sports hall
Love
Lights go down
It’s a whole different scene
Light and motion
Love
Light and motion
Lights up the motion of the sky
It’s hard to walk away
Love
But you could have it all
We could have it all
Love
We could have it all some day
But love, we shine like a burning star
We’re falling from the sky tonight
Love
And love, we fall like a burning stary
We’re falling from the sky tonight
Love

Lifting up now

It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
No secret that our world is in darkness tonight
They say the sun is sometimes eclipsed by a moon
You know I don't see you when she walks in the room
No secret that a friend is someone who lets you help
No secret that a liar won't believe anyone else
They say a secret is something you tell one other person
So I'm telling you, child

That, love, we shine like a burning star
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
We're falling from the sky tonight
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
A man will beg
A man will crawl
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
On the sheer face of love
Like a fly from a wall
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
It's no secret at all

No secret that a conscience can sometimes be a pest
No secret ambition bites the nails of success
Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief
All kill their inspiration and sing about their grief
Oh love

Love, we shine like a burning star
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love

We're falling from the sky tonight
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
A man will beg
A man will crawl
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
On the sheer face of love
Like a fly from a wall
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
It's no secret at all

Love, we shine like a burning star
We’re falling from the sky tonight
A man will beg
A man will crawl
On the sheer face of love
Like a fly from a wall
It's no secret at all

It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
The universe exploded 'cause of one man's lie
Check, I gotta go, I'm running outta change
There's a lot of things, if I could I'd rearrange

Yeah
Gotta go
Gotta go
Gotta go
Gotta go
Gotta go
Gotta go
Gotta go
Gotta go
Gotta go

Thank you, LemonMacPhisto, for posting those lyrics! I love that version of 'The Fly' and the words to that intro....it gets to me in a good way.

He varied the lyrics between concerts, all along the same sort of theme though, sometimes he pulled it off, other times they were weaker. Turin was particularly good.

Wow! Thank you for confirming that for me. I had thought they were his lyrics as I was unfamiliar with the tune and the content sounded very U2-ish. I wonder if the words to the intro will surface in a future U2 song? I really thought it might pop up in some form on the new album, but they are not there. That intro. was always a big mystery to me. Thanks again.

This version of The Fly was in my opinion the best version i've heard so far.
The new intro with the lyrics sounded so amazing. Then the way it kicks into the songs' main riff. I loved the way Bono sings both the "Love, we shine..." part and the "A man will beg..." part. Then the Edge's solo was very strong and powerful. Then as the song comes close to the end, i like it when Bono jumps into the crowd and yells "Gotta Go" And finally when Bono runs into the video screen and stands still looking like a fly along with the other bandmates...and to top it off...the "Gotta Go" loop was the iceing on the cake. Very very good version.

Yes, this is by far my favorite version of The Fly, which is one of my favorite songs... I really like how he leads the intro into the chorus.

Though, upon seeing this, I have to mention that Bono's singing in the chorus of Live From Chicago DVD was especially powerful, and that's my 2nd favorite version.

One of the VERY best live song versions EVER!! Love the way the band starts - almost like they're emotionally drained or something & then go strongly into the song.

This version of the Fly was just very animated - Bono running around the stage in circles, crawling, jumping into the audience, and ending up in a splat on the back screens. Great performance all around!!

Chicago DVD version great too. Back to the old school style....

Edge: Love, we shine like a burning star...

Bono: A man will beg, a mall will fall...

i was there. the best part about the intro is that a lot of people didnt initially realize what song it was, but at the last second the audience did and the surprise of knowing it was The Fly got things started for that song on a great note.

are there any other live songs for which u2 put a twist on the intro like they did here?
