Does anyone have any ideas about the lyrics for the new beach clips? I know that some people have already posted lyrics in other threads, but I thought it would be a good idea to get them all in one place.

I meant to post the lyrics i heard in Breathe:
Verse1
(0:04) 15th of June
(0:10) What do you think I need to know?
(0:17) Struttin' his tail
(0:18) People I know this guy wouldn't lie/mind
(0:20) Does anyone.???... to?
(0:22) So why would I invite a stranger into my home, would you?
(0:27) And it will be as you want it to be
(0:35) Everthing's not alright
(0:41) We are people.???... the sound
(0:44) The sounds are in our lives
(0:47) Gonna where them like a crown
Chorus
Walk out into the street
Sing your heart out
.???...
I'm neither down nor out
There's nothing you hide that I need
I can breathe
Need, oh yeah
Verse2
(1:23) 16th of June
(1:26) I'm not comin' down until you wave goodbye
(1:32) There's no cryin' or dyin'
(1:36) Nevermind, St. John Divine on the line
(1:41) But you never know
(1:44) I've got love in my head playing this symphony

That's all I got so far. I borrowed some stuff from other people on this forum.

Caleb,

wouldn't it make more sense if the chorus was:

I can breathe

BREATHE, oh yeah???

Having the word "NEED" doesn't make sense. Can you confirm this? Just wondering because it sounds more appropriate that way don't you think?

Are you positive thats what you heard?

These are the lyrics I hear:

And it's a sad picture
The final blow hits you
Somebody else gets
What you wanted again

You know it's all the same
Another time and place
Repeating history
And you're getting sick of it

But I believe in whatever you do
And I'll do anything to see it through
Because these things will change

Can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up
To hold us back
Will fall down
It's a revolution
The time will come for us to finally win
We'll sing hallelujah
We'll sing hallelujah, oh

So we've been outnumbered
Raided and now cornered
It's hard to fight
When the fight ain't fair

We're getting stronger now
From things they never found
They might be bigger
But we're faster and never scared

You can walk away
Say we don't need this
But there's something in your eyes
Says we can beat this
'Cause these things will change

Can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up
To hold us back
Will fall down
It's a revolution
The time will come for us to finally win
We'll sing hallelujah
We'll sing hallelujah, oh

Tonight we'll stand and get off our knees
Fight for what we've worked for
All these years
The battle was long
It was the fight of our lives
But we'll stand up, champions tonight
It was the night things changed

Can you see it now?
The walls that they put up
To hold us back
Fell down
It's a revolution
Throw your hands up
'Cause we never gave in
We'll sing hallelujah
We sang hallelujah
Hallelujah

No your right, I meant to type breathe:doh:. My bad.

Can anyone hear any lyrics on clip 4? I'm pretty sure I hear " Love will never say goodbye, never say goodbye" towards the end. That would also match up with a song born during the ATYCLB sessions I believe.:hmm:

These were my version of Clip 2's lyrics from the other thread.

(Verse 1)
(0:03)Fifteenth of June...............
....................
(0:10)but you think I need you there.
...........(0:17)a couple of.....
.................................
(0:22)So why would I invite a stranger into my home - would you?
(0:27)And it will be (easy?) as you want it to be,
(0:32)Listen to me,
.................(0:36)Ooooh, al-riiight.

(Pre-Chorus)
...................(0:42)for a sound,
(0:45)the (sounds/songs) are in our eyes,
(0:47)gonna wear them like a (crown/gown), ooooh

(Chorus)
(0:52)Walk out, into the street,
(0:58)Sing your heart out,
...........................
(1:04)Neither down, nor out
(1:07)There's nothing you have
(1:10)That I neeeeeeeeeeeed -- I can breathe
(1:17)Breeeeeaaathe, oh yeah

(Verse 2)
(1:23)Sixteenth of June...........
..................(1:27)comin' down....
......................................
......................................
...............(1:46)playin' a symphony

(Pre-Chorus)
...................(1:50)for a sound,
(1:52)the (sounds/songs) are in our eyes
(1:55)gonna wear them like a (crown/gown), ooooh

(Chorus)
(2:01)Walk out, into the street
(2:05)Sing your heart out,
...........................
(2:11)I'm neither down, nor out
(2:15)There's nothing you have,
(2:18)that I neeeeeeed --(2:21)I can breathe,
(2:25)Breeeeeaaaaaathe - yeaaah, yeaaah

-Guitar Solo-

(The structure of the song somewhat changes for this section, and the lyrics are nearly impossible to understand)
.....................................
.....................................
.....................................
(3:01)Ooooooooooooooooh,
(3:08)Oooh, ............, Whoaoo-ohhhh

(Chorus, but Bono sings on top of the chorus - in fact, this may not be the chorus at all, it may just be using the backing part of the chorus)
......................................
......................................
......................................
......................................
......(3:35)Lemme' breaaaathe,
(3:38)Pleeeeeeease, let me breeeaathe

(Outro, none of which I understand)
......................................
......................................
......................................

It seems like you're right about the title, but since clip 4 is the one I've sworn not to listen to at all before the album is released I can't be of much assistance I'm afraid. Everybody seems most excited by this track in particukar out of the 5 leaked clips, and the comments about it...
This is going to be a good first listen.

There's two titles from Eno's list of songs from All That You Can't Leave Behind (at least I think that was the source) that matches those lyrics, here they are:

· Never Say Goodbye (“...love will never...”
· Love Will Never Say Goodbye

Does anyone else hear this in the first half of Breathe:

(0.03) 15th of June
(0.05) Then I started a job
(0.06) ................................
(0.08) ................................
(0.10) Would you think I need to know?
(0.15) Please!
(0.16) Coming for the run by a couple/the trouble of sales people
(0.18) I know this guy that wouldn't buy this any one sucker tune
(0.21) So why would I invite a stranger into my home
(0.25) Would you?

(0.26) And it was for you
(0.28) As you wanted to see
(0.31) A different me
(0.32) And it was for you
(0.34) Everything's gonna be alright

(0.41) We are ...... for a sound
(0.44) Stars are in our eyes
(0.47) Gonna wear them like a crown

(0.51) Oh oh oh

(0.52) Walk out into the street
(0.57) Sing your heart out
(1.01) .......................
(1.04) Neither down nor out
(1.07) There's nothing you hide
(1.10) That I need
(1.13) I can breathe
(1.17) Breathe, oh yeah

(1.23) 16th of June
(1.25) .........................

:hmm:

And thus this thread was moved to the graveyard of all good lyrics threads, "It's a Musical Journey."

What a shame.

I wonder if Bono and Edge were originally going to play Breathe for Mandela in Hyde Park?
In that charity Vipp-bin there's a sheet of lyrics* and it seems to me like it says something like this in the middle:

"We as people learn of good
the songs are in our eyes
gonna wear them like a crown
..."
It's pretty hard to tell though.

*
"Inside the bin will be some handwritten song lyrics including the first draft of a song Bono wrote for Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday."

EDIT: This also strengthens the theory about the Soweto-uprising. :hmm: The plot thickens as they say.

I saw your post over there, thanks for doing that. It does look like he abandoned the lyric. The "not good enough 4 the great man" thing he wrote on it. And of course the fact that he felt they belonged in the trash bin.

I'll try again then:
breathe-vipp.jpg

breathe-vipp-enhanced.jpg

[Thick Black scribble in the top left corner]
Not fall/So far
or
?? ?? ??

[Thinner writing]
??? the Nelson Mandela
All those who stood together now know this....
that real classic is not a scar on the land
but in the heart of a every man, who began as a boy

[beside the fist holding something]
not to resist
a knotted fist
now an open hand
an open face
an open page
And history might
re..ate it's rage

"We as people learn of sound
the songs are in our eyes
gonna wear them like a crown"

[beneath the hand doing the peace-sign]
a knotted fist
now an open hand
an open face
an open page

[Writing on the side]
The salt in your eyes
tell a story and others
tell every heart
it's as free as is yours

[Black, thick writing]
Not good enough 4 the great man.

Interesting enough, there seems to be a speech/other lyrics written on the backside:
I'll go crazy if I don't go... and so on in the top left corner.

Breakthrough! He definitely says some of these lines in Beach Clip #2.

On the other hand it does say "BoNo TRASH - w finished lyrics" on the can itself, I don't know if you've noticed or perhaps my eyes play tricks on me.
4-5 sheets of paper with lyrics on their front and backsides, does this mean the buyer will know all the lyrics to the upcoming album? (5 sheets x 2 sides = 10 song lyrics) :hyper:

:hmm: there could be other lyrics besides the Mandela ones.
I just was referring to the way he wrote that they were not good enough, and then puts them "in the trash".
I think he wrote on the can "unfinished" lyrics.

(I think you posted the link for the big picture, thanks!) Interesting that there are a lot more than one page of lyrics!

Oh and good detective work on the reverse side of the paper!

Oh, I see. I must've misunderstood your interpretation, then.

My mistake about the writing too, it certainly helps to have a full scale picture like that!

I posted the three pictures on the last page, but not the closeup that you used in your reply. Thank you yourself for listening to my ramblings and pure speculation. ;)

It's ok, when I posted that I also didn't know there were multiple pages of lyrics, thats verrrry interesting! But he definitely seemed to feel the ones on that page in particular weren't good enough.

I thought you posted the link to where I got the huge pic as well, guess it was someone else, oops! And Bono's handwriting is always up for interpretation I suppose

Must be the lyrics to Crazy Tonight, it seems :hyper:.
Did anyone try to figure out the lyrics for the lead single yet?
We will find out in 10 days, anyway so let's do this just for fun, shall we. :D
Here's my try:

Beach Clip #3 - Get On Your Boots
[Verse]
Everything is perfect
And now
It's six o' clock
Haven't seen you midnight
But I miss you too
I've got submarine
You've got gasoline
Gasoline and ... in your sexy boots

[Chorus]
Sexy boots, boots, boots
Sexy boots, yeah

[Verse]
I think you're ...
...
but you offer me to teach me
I think you teach me how to do it
You tried to put the fire out
But you couldn't put it out, I guess
You haven't seen it [talk interrupting]

[Pre-chorus]
(oh oh oh ha)
(oh oh oh ha)
You don't know how beautiful you are
You don't know (no, oh oh oh)
and you don't get it do you? (no, oh oh oh)
You don't know
Know how beautiful (You don't know how beautiful)
You are

[Chorus]
Sexy boots, boots, boots
Sexy boots, yeah
Sexy boots

[Verse]
Something in the night
It's your war
Would you fall
Beautiful, tall
Scared but I don't run he says
I don't wanna love you
But I just can't get over you
And I don't wanna talk about the war between the nations

[Chorus]
Sexy boots
Sexy boots, yeah
Sexy boots, boots, boots

[Pre-chorus]
(oh oh oh ha)
(oh oh oh ha)
You don't know how beautiful you are
You don't know (no, oh oh oh)
and you don't get it do you? (no, oh oh oh)
You don't know (You don't know how beautiful)
Know how beautiful
You are

[Chorus]
Sexy boots
Sexy boots, yeah
Sexy boots

[Outro break]
Is this the Hip-hop twist in the middle mentioned by Q?

...
You don't know, baby
You don't know, baby
It's fine
Ba-by
It's fine
You don't know, baby
You don't know, baby
You're mine
You don't know, baby
You don't know, baby
It's fine

[Final chorus]
Get On Your Boots
Get On Your Boots
Get On Your Boots - He-he-hey!
Get On Your Boots - He-he-hey!
Get On Your Boots - He-he-hey!
Get On Your Boots - He-he-hey!
Get On Your Boots - He-he-hey!
Get On Your Boots, boots, boots - He-he-hey!

Something like that, I guess.
Your turn.
