Nice one Lady Luck!
Ok, I confess the first time I heard that sentence, I understood "I want to trip inside your hip(s)". Until I read the lyrics, I thought "wow, Bono makes beautiful rhymes, but that's a bit hot, isn't it?" :reject:

During EBTTRT I cant help but add the "Is it art or is it pornography?" line from the video.

omg, daveone, I do that all the time too!! The song sounds so weird to me without that and all the other tv stuff. I watched my copy of "The Videos, the Cameos..." waaaaayyy too many times when I was younger. Okay, and last week.

In "An Cat Dubh," when he sings, "And when she is done/She sleeps beside the one," I thought he was saying "sleeps beside the wall." Not much of a difference, I guess.

Oooh, here this is good: "Wire." In the beginning, when he sings "Such a nice day/Throw your life away," I heard "Certain I stay/Throw your love away." It didn't make any sense, but sometimes Bono gets kinda random and obscure, so I just chalked it up to that. The end of that song took me a while, too. When he says, "I'm on right track," I thought he was saying, "I'm alright Jack." You know, since he already used the word 'track.'

hi hi hi!!!

another one, I had completely forgotten.
It's from one
"love is a tempo" instead of "love is a temple"

let me explain this: "tempo" means "time" in Italian... I was thought "wow, how cool Bono talks Italian in such a wonderful song..."

While we're at it.... wtf is Bono going on about in Elevation? You know the spoken bit?

sounds like "take it out and stick it in a pot" to me.

I started a thread on this earlier but nobody has been able to shed light on this burning issue.

This is great!! "love is a tempo" could have been a great sentence!

Sally, sorry but I've got no idea about this sentence. To be honest, I stopped trying to understand the lyrics of Elevation!

never notice it!
it's where in the song?

I was on a Pop bender yesterday evening and as I was singing "Staring at the Sun" I realized that before I knew the correct lines:

"Intransigence is all around... military is still in town
Armour plated suits and ties... daddy just won't say goodbye
Referee won't blow the whistle God is good but will HE listen
I'm nearly great
But there's something I'm missing I left in the duty free
Though you never really belonged to me"

I used to sing it as:

"Chasing Jesus all around...cuz you know He's still in town. I'm in place with suits and ties...daddy just won't say goodbye. Referee won't blow the whistle God is good but will HE listen.
I'm ungrateful there's something missing...I'm still here Judy's free oh but she never really belonged to me..."

I always wondred who the hell Judy was.

Just after the first chorus, before the start of the second verse. I swear on my life he says "rip it out and stick it in a pot". So far I remain unenlightened as to what he's truly banging on about.

The best misheard lyric I've heard so far came from my sister. She heard "Yahweh" and asked me why Bono was singing "you're a whale"!!!

In Like a Song I thought Bono was singing "Die in the streets for what you want." instead of "Is honesty what you want?" I still can't hear it. In Mofo I thought he was singing "Looking for a sound thats going to drown out the weather" instead of "Looking for a sound that going to drown out the world". The words that I heard make the lines more powerful to myself.

couple of lines in So cruel....

' head in heaven' - i used to hear it as 'heaven heaven'
'between the horses....of love and lust we are trampled' - i used to hear it as ' between the horses of love and lost emotion' blissfully unaware of how utterly ridiculous that sounded

Ok. That's a lot of "misheard" lyrics!! But I'm with you, I always thought/sing it as "I'm ungrateful, there's something missing..." too. And can I just say that I think our version makes much more sense :cute:

Talking about So Cruel, when Bono says "I gave you everything you ever wanted" I always hear "I gave you everything you ever wanted to have"..

From Kite......
' theres a cat blowin out of control in the breeze' i think somebody already mentioned this

I just heard Kite again and I couldn't stop laughing because it DOES sound like CAT.

"I won't rest down to her feet" -- instead of "I won't rest until you're found" in The Ground Beneath her feet...

I just found out last week that on "The Fly," the line is:

"The universe exploded 'cause of one man's lie"

When I thought it was:

"The universe exploded is an old man's lie"

I just thought it was Bono's stance on the Big Bang Theory.

There are so many more...

Miracle Drug:
"I wanna see your thoughts take shape and well cried out"

In A Little While:
"In a little while, I will blow my evergreens"

Even Better Than The Real Thing:
"My heart is where it's always been
My head is somewhere in the trees"

In God's Country:
"Dress torn in ribbons and in bows
Like a siren she goes away"

Pride:
"In the name of love, one more in the name of love"

Bad:
"To let it go and so fade away
I'll run away, run away, run away, I'm not sleeping"

When my mom first heard I Still haven't found she thought they were singing "I'm still having fun what I'm looking for"

The other day she heard yaweh and that he was singing "You wait"

The first time i heard "One" :
...
Is it too late, tonight, to drag the pasta into the light?

But of course it made no sense at all in the song...

Once upon a time, a good friend of mine was absolutely certain it was "don't let the bad stuff get you down" instead of "don't let the bastards grind you down" because "U2 is a 'good' band and they wouldn't swear." She heard what she wanted to hear because she was a "good" girl and didn't want to admit to listening to music that had bad words in it. The cute part is, I think we were 17 or so at the time.

My naive interpretations of lyrics pretty much stopped after Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet. I wish I could remember what I thought they were saying because I remember being shocked when I read the liner notes.

I do still misunderstand lyrics all the time if I can't see them in writing, but it's usually small things that aren't nearly as funny as dragging pasta into the light. That image is going to make me giggle every time I listen to One now.

In "WHEN THE STARS GO BLUE"-- i thought Andrea was singing "Dancing little merry and wet" insted of "dancing little marionette"...

Oh my God, this is too funny. Up until yesterday I thought the line from One Step Closer was "I'm under the bridge and a reptile's taking everything I call my own."

This thread is great, just the mental pictures it brings up. A reptile taking everything I own, too late tonight to bring the pasta into the light...these are great.

The silliest one, definitely, for me is from Wild honey:

"yeah just blowing in a breeze"

I heard "Edge is blowing in a breeze"

:coocoo:

Me too! I was so confused as to why Bono would actually write in one of the members into a song.

One time on the radio....they were having a HTDAAB day....and the announcer introduced "One Step Closer" as "One Step Closer to Norway"

In Beautiful day I heard "sky folds it's a beautiful day!"

As for "pasta" in One, I heard that line as "to drag the passed out into the light".

"I have climbed..." used to be "Achill yeah" in my mind.

So cruel: "heaven heaven, thunders under my Earth" instead of "head in heaven, fingers in the mire".
