Crowe cheers on Kiwis
07 FEB 2002
By SHAUN PHILLIPS, Herald Sun

RUSSELL Crowe watched from on high at the MCG yesterday as gladiators of another kind battled it out in the first one-day final.
Crowe paid thousands for a corporate box to watch his Kiwi countrymen take on South Africa.

Patrons in the public sections had almost as much privacy, if not the same waiter service, with fans staying away in their thousands.

The MCC members' pavilion was the only shoulder-to-shoulder section in the arena.

Elsewhere there was ample room for cat-swinging as predictions of a low attendance because the Aussies were absent turned out to be spot on.

Crowe was believed to have paid up to $500 a head for his party, which included Molly Meldrum.

The actor is a cousin of former Kiwi star batsmen Jeff and Martin Crowe.

Ahhh...

But what are crickets to U2? is the question

Discussion of books about or mentioning U2 or literature that has influenced U2's songwriting

Admit it, Salome, you are fallible!

I am fallible

I think you're lucky you dont have to deal with both waughs going at once...but i will say i dont want to see either ponting or gilchrist as skipper...Warne or Lehmann are the guys to take us to the world cup.

Ponting named captain

From our wire services
News Interactive
16feb02

RICKY Ponting has been named Australian one-day cricket captain and Adam Gilchrist vice-captain for the tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The Australian Cricket Board (ACB) announced the appointments today following the shock axing of Steve Waugh as skipper earlier this week.

ACB Chairman Bob Merriman said the appointments were for the seven upcoming one-day matches in South Africa and three in Zimbabwe.

"I'm very confident that the Australian public know their cricket very, very well, they'll have plenty of views," Merriman told reporters.

"I'm sure that they'll support the Australian captain very, very strongly as they have in the past.

"In taking the decision ... we have high confidence that he'll perform the job very, very satisfactorily and with great success."

I think the selectors know what they're doing. Time for a change anyway.

And the cricket is kinda U2 related, they showed some at Zoo 93.

Cricket is just not what it used to be.

Sigh.

in almost any team sport selectors seem to not have a clue what exactly they are doing
so I'm not sure whether it's any different with cricket

good luck to Ponting though
