Can someone tell me which concert recording is the best from each U2 tour?

And where to get it?!

Boston tapes for War tour

29 April (Rock's hottest ticket) and Nov 7 on JT tour

Dublin shows for Lovetown (also worth a mention the last Rotterdam date and Sydney 18 Nov on first leg)

For Zoo TV, depends which leg: Stockholm for arenas, Wembley dates for early Zooropa and Washington DC for stadums. Sydney or Adelaide for the last leg.

Popmart: Sarajevo, Santiago. Also Leeds and Tel Aviv are good.

For the last two tours, the best shows aren't as obvious as previous years. I suggest last Boston and Chicago show from first leg, and Providence and Miami (last show of the tour) on the last leg.

For this tour, last show in Chicago on first leg, last show in Amsterdam on second leg and the two Chicago dates on third leg (I just downloaded them and ... woo hoo) The last show in Croke Park, Ireland was I think the longest show on the tour, but I haven't heard it. For last leg, I guess Buenos Aires broadcast.

Boy tour - probably 1981-03-06 Boston, excellent quality & show
October - 1981-12-13 Lido Beach, 1982-02-11 New Orleans, 1982-03-17 NYC

I agree about the 11/7/87 show. I listen to that bootleg all the time. Very good. I also like the Dublin shows from Lovetown as well as the Dublin show on 8/28/93, even though it was a radio broadcast.

Absolutely cannot go wrong with any of those four shows. They are all incredible and were posted on U2T within the last few months.

Try the " save file" thread in Music from the internet forum, I have found plenty of shows also at u2mp3s.com .

vegas 11-5-05. the ebay mp3's are amazing. it sounds like a board, and blows away the version's that have been torrented. better then any of the 30 shows i've got torrented from vertigo tour.

After hearing this concert last night for the first time, I have to seriously recommend it.

6-15-92 "The Real Thing" (Ahoy Stadium, Holland) (a KTS recording)

I knew about this show being one of the best through AchtungBootlegs. About time I got around to hearing this.

ABSOLUTELY!!! amazing encore, just amazing

all good suggestions on here already. not much to add. If you go for the 1981-12-13 show from Lido Beach make sure to get the Reel 2 Reel source. That was my favourite bootleg from that tour BEFORE I got that source, and that source takes it to another level.

My List:
1981-03-06
1981-12-13
1982-03-17
1983-05-06
1985-04-23 (the only tour I dont have a good SBD from--anybody??)
1987-11-07
1989-12-30 or 31 or the other 2 Dublin shows
1993-08-28
1997-12-03
2001-05-03
2001-10-24
2001-10-27 (2 post 9/11 NYC shows)
2005-05-26
2005-10-08
so many great audience recordings from this tour to narrow it down past shows I went to. those 2 were great shows with great recordings out there.
2006-02-20 purely for a SBD/broadcast

For the UF Tour my suggestions are clear:

1984-10-23 Nantes (France)
1985-03-27 Montreal (Canada)

also

1985-02-05 Bologna (Italy)

I agree 100% with the concerts suggested before, but I can add some more:

Boy-
1981-11-13 Albany (NY)
October-
1982-03-17 New York (NY)
War
1983-05-30 Devore (CA)
Joshua Tree-
1987-09-28 New York (NY)
Love Town-
1990-01-06 Rotterdam (NL)
ZooTv-
1992-08-13 East Rutherford (NJ)
Pomart-
1997-06-18 Oakland (CA)
Elevation-
2001-10-10 South Bend (IN) no doubt!!
Vertigo-
2005-08-05 Nice (France)

Of course I could name 2 more for each tour, but It's difficult to choose

All have thrown in some great choices.

Here's a few more not to be overlooked:

Boy:
Hamburg 2/15/81 - very few people there, band wins over crowd.

October
NY Ritz Night 2 - 3/18/82 (longest setlist of tour - Southern Man, A Celebration debut, Tomorrow)

War
London 3/29/83 - Knockin on Heaven's Door with Stuart Adamson & Mike Peters and overall just a great vibe

UF: (so many)
First leg: London 11/3/84 (1st show Bad really comes together, IMO)
US Leg 2:
Worchester 4/18/85 (War setlist throwback) +
Hartford 4/23/85
Last leg: Croke Park 6/29/85

Amnesty:
LA 6/6/86

JT:
1st leg: Hartford 5/7/87
2nd Leg: Cork 8/8/87
3rd Leg: Boston: 9/18/87

LoveTown
1st Leg: Perth 9/23/89 (In God's Country opener and it just getes better from there)
2nd Leg: Rotterdam 1/6/89 (She's a Mystery to Me w/ BB KIng's backup vocalists, etc).

Zoo TV
1st Leg: Boston 3/17/92 (St. Patty's Day in Boston)
2nd Leg: Milan 5/22/92
Outside Broadcast (Hershey Tapes as honorable mention for full band So Cruel & Acrobat) +
Chicago 9/18/92

Zooropa: Berlin 6/15/93 (stomping in Hitler's old stoming ground).

PopMart:
1st Leg - Las Vegas just for the flubs!
2nd Leg: Rotterdam 7/18/97
3rd Leg: Sarejvo 9/23/97
Last leg: Melbourne: 2/21/98

Elevation:
Promo Tour: Irving Plaza 12/5/00
1st Leg: Boston 6/9/01
2nd Leg London: 8/21/01 (Day Bono's dad dies)
3rd Leg: NY MSG 10/27/01

Vertigo
1st Leg: Seattle 4/25/05
2nd leg: Amersterdam 7/16/05
3rd Leg: Detroit: 10/25/01

I forgot to add Red Rocks for War tour but I figure that will be out on DVD sometime...

UF: Bologna 85 first night and Chicago 85, also Nantes

JT: LA 18 Nov

Vertigo: Croke Park doesn't sound great, forgot to add Sao Paolo shows.

I'm basing my preferences mainly on the quality of the recording first. Then the performance after that.

Boy:
3-6-81 Boston FM Broadcast

October:
12-13-81 Lido Beach Soundboard

War:
5-30-83 Devore (US Festival) Soundboard (the upgrade version), diff. setlist for War. Good show, high quality. Boston 5-5-83 and Red Rocks are obviously right up there with this one. I like the setlist better though for Devore.

The Unforgettable Fire Tour:

11-21-84 Dortmund (Broadcast) only problem is its incomplete. Best quality though for this tour. For a full show it would probably be Nantes 84 soundboard (although even the upgrade of this has a few flaws) or the top notch Bologna or Chicago audience recordings for full shows.

The Joshua Tree Tour:
11-7-87 Denver Audio from the pro shot video, specifically the Back In Denver remaster is outstanding. I dont think any other JT recording circulating has even come close to this one.

Lovetown Tour:
12-26-89 Dublin Soundboard, basically take your pick with any of the Lovetown Dublin soundboard shows. They are all excellent. I pick this one because it opens with God Part II and has arguably the best live version of One Tree Hill period.

Zoo TV:

8-28-93 Dublin FM Broadcast, decent show, best quality period for this tour. OR
11-27-93 Sydney (The Westwood One Broadcast, not the pay per view), see Dublin above, pretty much the same quality.

Popmart:

1-31-98 Sao Paolo TV Broadcast audio
2-11-98 Santiago TV Broadcast audio
(take your pick here, both are excellent shows with excellent quality)

Elevation:

10-10-01 South Bend (direct satellite audio capture). Perfect quality, unique setlist for Elevation. I'm a tad biased though on this one as I was there as well.

Vertigo:

Dont really have a pick that I would post. I guess the verdict is still out on this tour for me.
